Custom Cards From Joe Con 2008

For the past couple of years my buddy KuuKuuSon (aka James) has been handing out card art of the free club figure at the con. This year we changed it up some and decided to do some custom cards - not to mention that art from the Robot Rebellion CC is pretty hard to come by. This year, we did three. You've seen one already from the ViperCon thread:

ViperCon is upon you!

Printing: KuuKuuSon James
Layout, Design & Coloring: GGPiKE George
Character Art: FireChief420 Daniel
File Card: GGPiKE George & CmderinChief Gary

The second card is based upon the GIJCC's April Fool's Convention Figure. We decided not only to make a custom of it (which greatly improved on the joke version), but card art too. Fully endorsed by the CFB!

Because just photoshopping a Skull Buster on Baracade's body looked bad, we enlisted the help of FireChief420 Daniel to draw this one up free hand and he nailed it.

Custom Figure: GGPiKE George
Character Drawing: FireChief420 Daniel
Character Coloring: GGPiKE George
Design, Layout & Printing: KuuKuuSon James
File Card: CmderinChief Gary

The last one is actually one we have been talking about since '05. In '05 I found a straight arm Snake Eyes painted up like Spider Man for very cheap. I could not pass it up since it was so....well, crappy. It was funny! The CFB chose to make it our "mascot" and created his own personna, El Tarantula. Even though the name is clearly Spanish, we drew up a story of this being a Brazilian Variant. So when it came time to do the card, the easy part was converting the text from english to portugese (and its BAD portugese, but that is part of the joke), but was creating the character art. Originally we wanted to modify the McFarlane GI Joe Special #1 art and make it work, but it just didn't work well. GGPiKE came through with a true work of art imposing a Spider Man suit on the V1 SE card art. The key here was removing the gun and dropping in the Spider Man emblem on the chest. Again, he was awesome and pulled this off. To top it off, we added 5 busts of the first 5 inductees of the CFB. We passed out very few of these during the con. Only if someone asked I would give them out. They were passed out as meeting exclusives to the 5th annual meeting of the CFB after the Casino Night Dinner.

Character Morphing and Art: GGPiKE George
Card Art Design, Layout & Printing: KuuKuuSon James
Filecard: CmderinChief Gary

We are happy everyone enjoyed them so much. Who knows what we will do next year. If you have any questions about the CFB or what the english translation of the El Tarantula filecard, just let me know.

Wierd that you decided to make the Spider-Eyes Brazillian.

About a year ago I had to go with a friend to the emergency room. As I was sitting, waiting, I was reading a stack of random comic books that I had gotten out of the local quarter box.

I found a few Devil's Due Joe books and decided to give them a try despite having been burned twice before.

They were bad.
They were all about a bunch of ninjas I did not know, and name dropping characters I did know. Of course I was not up to speed with the longer story....but I couldn't even follow what was actually going on in the scenes I was reading.

Anyway, there was a little kid spazz-fidgeting around right near me, and his mom was clearly stressed about the whole affair.
I scanned for innappropriate material and handed th Joe books to the kid.

They were Brazilian, speaking Portuguese, and the kid was oo little to read anyway.

But he got all excited when he saw the cover with a ninja on the ceiling and loudly declared him to be "Pi-Na-Man!"
His best pronunciation of "Spider-Man"!

So, who knows. Maybe that was El Tarantula's first appearance.

Just a small note the translation on the Cards is not correct. It's a mix between bad portuguese and spanish. Let me know if you need help correcting those.

Yup, the translation is bad. We just found an online translator. We were not necessarily shooting for accuracy in the language department. It was all part of the parody in this case. Based upon the demand, we may do a El Tarantula V2 for next year's con. If that is the case, we WILL have a properly translated card. I have a volunteer already, but if something happens, I'll keep ya in mind. Thanks!
