I've been doing customs for other toys for a while. I actually did some Joe customs back when I was a kid using Testors enamel paints (craptastic). 25th anniversary got me back into GIJoes, while this site got me focused into a different toy community. Previously I was involved with Transtopia, but after being eaten up by Seibertron, the sense of a community was lost. So I drifted away from TF customizing and eventually found a home here. BTW, you guys really are great. It amazes me how people here work together in their collecting, customizing, and trading. Anyways, enough of my personal intro, and let me introduce you to my first GIJoe 25th anniversary custom!
This is "Card Art Serpentor". When I saw him in the stores, I thought he looked a little odd in his pearlescent apricot color. First I thought he needed to be redone closer to his ARAH self. But then I noticed the figure's color scheme was virtually opposite of his card art. I decided to forgo the retro repaint. This is the result. I used Army Drab green, gold and silver. Note that I painted his eyes gold like the card art, but I need to get magnifiers before I can add his pupils. Hope you like him. Thanks to Jin Saotome for his customizing site. That was actually the first time I ever heard of Model Master paints or the prepping with soapy water technique. Works like a charm! Before that I was completely disassembling my figures, priming, and then using cheap craft paints. This is much easier and the results are much nicer. Thanks!

(Your digibashes rock by the way!)

I've decided to replace his thighs with those from a spare Tomax. IMO, Serpentor is about the only character besides the Twins that can pull off the extra height to the boots.
Update: Turns out the Tomax thighs are significantly shorter than Serpentor's. When I switched them, he looked somewhat short. So I opted to leave him his normal thighs.

By the way, has anyone tried to repaint Serpy's eyebrows so he looks more menacing? Or at least less worried. |
