For those of us who can write everything we know about parachutes on the back of a postage stamp, what's the deal with the special set up for HALO jumps? Why does is the pack arranged to hang so loosely around the legs?

Question 2: There are more straps in the back that you can't see that connect it to the back of the parachute harness and the reason the shoulder straps on the ruck are around the legs is to hold the ruck close to the body to keep you aerodynamic and the straps are loose so the jumper can still walk. Once the parachute is deployed, the ruck can be lowered(15ft lowering line keeps it attached to the jumper). |

In the Army, Riggers and Airborne School Instructors(black hats) are the only ones authorized to wear baseball hats in uniform. Last edited by AirborneRigger; 03-12-2008 at 03:10 AM.. |

I painted over the existing skin tone though, which was way too reddish. |

Hey (showing how old I am now) when I signed into my unit in 93 I was required to wear the green beret since it was the headgear of the unit (3rd SFG). Needless to say I wore my red hat or whatever else I could to not have to wear that beret. Just like it is now SF and Ranger guys didn't like non qualified guys wearing something that they worked for. About 4 months later we were told that the red airborne beret was authorized. We were pretty happy about that.
