That's really nice! Especially for such quick turnaround.

Thanks! This one might be dead in the water though. (Pun intended?)
I just posted this in my MTF-to-HACKS Adapters thread, but I am going to repeat it here since it's relevant for anyone who might be interested in these dio pieces... Quote:
...Shapeways has decided to overhaul their pricing structure, and not in a favorable direction. They didn't bother to warn me and it changed sometime since Sunday I guess. I happened to see some UI changes when I logged in to upload some test models this evening and then I went to the Shapeways forum and by chance found out what had happened to pricing as well. The (fairly awful) UI change was not announced at all, but apparently the pricing change was announced back in August. The thing is, it was only announced in a forum post and not via email to designers - or at least I never received any such email. That displeases me.
I'm not sure how much longer I will bother selling items on Shapeways under their new pricing. I had sticker shock on some items I have in my model list that I don't have up for sale yet and now probably won't bother putting up for sale at all. Those items are on the larger side anyway, so maybe smaller items won't be hit as hard. I just don't know yet. I'm not at all sure how big a difference there will be for my existing offerings. I will have to do some testing to find out. And if you haven't guessed, that's exactly how I wanted to spend my time! According to Shapeways' forum posts, items that were already up for sale and publicly viewable in my shop as of 10/22/2018 won't get jacked up until January of 2019 because they opted to keep old prices in place for those items for the Christmas shopping season. However, any item that was privately listed and any new items I create are all subject to the new pricing model already. It remains to be seen how impactful that pricing change will be on my current catalog of items, but if there is anything you guys have been considering buying you might want to step up your timetable. By January it's a safe bet it will all be more expensive, and if the pricing goes all to hell I'll probably just close up my shop and leave Shapeways to their fate. Hopefully it won't come to that, though. First, they pulled down their pricing algorithm about a year ago (so you can't see how model pricing is generated) and jiggered the pricing of models around. Then, they discontinued their absolute best resin detail printing material without warning about 5 months ago. Now, they are jacking up prices - precipitously in some cases at least - based on machine space, material volume, and print orientation...but still not letting you see the algorithm so you can make your model as cost-effective as possible. I'm kinda pissed and I might just be done with these clowns. I need to get some sleep and cool off. Maybe I'll be less irritated in the morning.

The world of home 3d printing is much more affordable than it used to be. I have 4 FDM printers and the most expensive one is $600 that’s my CR10 S4. If you need a resin printer the Anycubic Photon is around $500 the resin prices are still quite a bit higher than FDM materials, but I would be happy to point you in the right direction. A decent starter FDM machine can be had for about $200 and rolls of plastic are around $15-$25 a kg.

Maybe I'll start a go-fund-me! In all seriousness, the only thing I hoped for my Shapeways shop to do was basically pay for my personal prints. Just a trickle of money to help my hobby pay for itself. As long as it can actually do that I'll keep it running. I have to sit down and re-upload my existing models under new products and change print orientation to see which direction is cheapest to print now. Once that's done I will have to go in and look at the pricing for each model, comparing old and new versions, to see what changes there are between the "grandfathered" prices and the upcoming new prices. Only then will I be able to see how much of a problem it's going to be to make sales come January. Maybe there will be good news, but I can tell right off that a lot of my small detail plastic items (the palm scanner and the chess boards and pieces) are going to go up by about 50% or more if I can't find some magic orientation that makes them suddenly cheaper than the prices I am seeing.

One of my friends recently got an Anycubic Photon. The print quality looks phenomenal. My FDM printer cost me around 2 grand, and is obviously no slouch, but I'm still envious of his.

I have 4 FDM printers and another on the way. Creality CR-10 S4 (400mm x 400mm x 400mm) Anet A8 (220mm x 220mm x 230mm) Creality Ender 2 (150mm x 150mm x 200mm) Tronxy X1 (150mm x 150mm x 150mm) on the way... Tevo Tornado (300mm x 300mm x 300mm) Most of my machines I have found used on Craigslist or eBay for cheap, but I'm a tinkerer and know how to fix things. I would like to order a Peopoly Moai resin printer, maybe someday.

I'm moving forward a bit with the casket design and hoping for the best for print pricing when it's all done. So far I have the outer shell about done. I am not sure about the shape of the lid yet and I have a couple of pegs to add to the main box, but this is basically the way it will look.
The basic hollow shell is pricing out at about $45. It remains to be seen what the price will be when internals and hinges are in place. Overall outer dimensions are approximately 4.75" long, 1.64" wide, 1.33" tall. This is a 1:18 approximation of a true casket, which usually measures 28" wide, 24" tall, and between 81" and 84" long. I'm a bit over the length and width for true scale. Most of that is due to the handles being in the outward position. I also have left a little extra room for internal detailing so I don't end up crowding out room for actual figures. EDIT: I just uploaded this same model to Sculpteo to compare prices and it looks like it will only be about $33 there in its current form. I may end up setting up shop there instead.

I started some work on the interior. There is still more to do on the interior and I still need to work out hinges as well.
Lid padding: Bottom lining: There is a very mild body-shaped impression in the bottom lining, but it doesn't show up very well in my render with the lighting the way it is.

The hollow shell version of the casket is posted on Sculpteo in a grey material ($25.77 as of this posting). There is no way to open this version of the casket, so it's pure diorama scenery. I'm testing the waters there with a new shop since some of Shapeways' prices are about to explode.
