I got the handle on the lid today. Tomorrow I'll probably finish the front clasp and smooth some edges, then it's on to articulation!

So how big is that one intended to be?

1:18 scale of the real thing. The lid is about 11.6" long on the real thing (if I remember correctly) which would make this 0.64" long for example. I don't have the can or the 3d file in front of me at the moment so those figures are approximate. But basically, they will be pretty small. The M19A1 30mm can will be about half the width of this "fat 50" so I may not articulate that one but I think the PA-120 40mm can will be large enough for a removable lid for sure. I have one of each of these cans laying around so I'm just sitting with a tape measure and a calculator while I model them on the screen. Everything down to the weld spots has been measured and scaled and added in so it's all pretty accurate.

The front hasp is in place now. I still need to make refinements all around, but the basic shape is in place now:

Man, you're making me jealous! :P I'm dying to see how well the fine details carry over to printing. I kept mine a little simpler since I wasn't sure if a lot of fine detail would carry through to the print (heck, my printer can't even fully print the latches or handle loops).

I fixed up a few things and attached the hasp to the lid and put some gap in the hinges:
It's time to make a finalized "static" version now... Quote:

For the static ammo can in this case I am toying with the idea of using the color sandstone so that the can is colored and decorated right off the bat - which is why I colorized this model. I still have to run it through the material checks to see if this model is even large enough to qualify for that material and to see if they will reject it due to text that they feel won't be legible. Dunno yet, but it's on my radar.

The empty shell, non-articulated 1:18 scale PA-108 "Fat .50 " ammo cans are finished in a 12-pack:
They are hollow on the bottom but are otherwise detailed.

The M19A1 30mm ammo can is in the works (leveraging the PA-108 and scaling down, so some details are missing or just wrong still):

A bit more refinement has been done. I think this one is just about there:

Here is a very preliminary PA-120 ammo can, showing it just for scale mostly:
