Zap,
If you plan to make any of the Elevator side or back pieces, I would suggest making 2 different back pieces: (1) in the same shape & design as the original piece and (2) a custom design where there side-vertical pieces and top-horizontal piece are a little thicker which allows an open space without the "V" supports. This way, you could actually play/pretend that small vehicles (like the Sky Hawk) were actually being loaded onto the elevator. I'm pretty excited about you making USS Flagg parts. I've posted links to your Shapeways site and this forum on the Facebook USS Flagg "Admirals" group page. Personally, I think the only missing piece I need is the mast cap (and a microphone - but don't really care about that). My son finally left for the USAF. So now that I have my office back, I am ready to move my USS Flagg out of the garage and set up a display for all my Joe stuff in my office. I've been working on a design for a custom 3-level Flagg that will be my primary custom project over the summer. Jason Parts the size of the elevator walls would be crazy expensive to print from an on-demand service like Shapeways or Sculpteo but anyone with a filament printer with a large enough print area could print their own at home for pretty cheap. I'd be fine with modeling them and putting modified replacement pieces on Thingiverse for people to enjoy if I get my hands on a set of those wall supports for measurement.

Thanks for the publicity. Have you seen any response in the group?

Plus, I don't know anyone offering repro antenna-mast parts, except maybe the mast cap. Jason |

The response from USS Flagg owners is pretty positive. Most are not purist, meaning that they don't mind buying repro parts, especially when original fan tail rails go for over $100.00.
Plus, I don't know anyone offering repro antenna-mast parts, except maybe the mast cap. Jason In the meantime, here is the WIP of the towing vehicle's seat: EDIT: Smoothed and refined some edges, but there are still a few spots that need attention. After that, I'm not sure if I will even try to get the texturing on the seat faces or not...

Oh, and I was meaning to ask; where did you get the wood grain texture for the coffin displacement map? Did you make it, or was it stock somewhere? Any displacement maps I've tried so far, I made in Photoshop.

Technical difficulty in adding the texture, or for other reasons? I've seen you try displacement mapping wood grain on the coffin, so you could probably add the texture to the seats too. Or, I could give it a shot if you want.
Oh, and I was meaning to ask; where did you get the wood grain texture for the coffin displacement map? Did you make it, or was it stock somewhere? Any displacement maps I've tried so far, I made in Photoshop. For the wood grain sample on that toe-pincher coffin I just pulled up a google image search for "weathered wood texture" or "old wood texture" or something along those lines which lead me to some website for sketchup users. Once there, I picked a result to play with. I ended up using this one, I believe: https://www.sketchuptextureclub.com/...seamless-08778 That site offers registered "free" users a higher-res version, and paid members get a hi-def image. I just screen capped the really low-res sample image in that page and carried on. Since it's not for rendering there really isn't any need to go to the trouble of registering a junk account just to download a mildly higher quality image than that. I'll find a solid freebie for the final run to make sure it's all on the up and up. But that assumes the test print wood grain textured panel I order comes out looking good in the first place (and see above for my confidence on that count). This nylon material is good for strength (even pretty decent strength in the z-axis) but surface detail is not crisp enough for fine or subtle detail. The materials Shapeways offers with good detail are brittle as hell and far more expensive. Once again, I lament the passing of the "hi-def black acrylate" which was on par with injection-molded ABS in strength and finish AND it allowed for CRAZY-FINE detail. So it's a limitation I'll have to live with to enjoy the strength and cost advantages of the nylon.

What a slow and unpleasant process this is...but I have finally completed the bundling for the test print of these latest pieces:
Now I just need to throw in a few BFS/MTF adapter test parts and a couple of other diorama parts I have ready to go and I can take a breather from all of the modeling for a couple of weeks.

I have an intact Tomahawk prop blade for you to model the next time, if you're interested.

Models of the retractable arresting cable sheaves used on aircraft carriers are available now, if anyone wants to enhance their Flagg:
Single Pair 3-Pack of Pairs These are based on reference photos of the arresting cable sheaves used on Nimitz Class aircraft carriers. The 3d printed parts are designed to allow string or elastic strips to be installed by running it through the opening and then attaching it to the center post in the inside in one of a few ways:
For reference:
