Assuming those are 6" tiles, that puts it in the "too close to call" category for me without having a proper in-hand measurement from someone. It looks really, really close to being short enough to print but if I had to guess I'd say it's probably over 15" in length. Other than "somewhere near the elevator" I have no clue where that piece actually goes on an assembled Flagg. I just assume based on the warping that I see in a lot of photos of that piece that it spans horizontally and supports some weight. Can anyone give me a pic of where it goes and what is around it so I can get a feel for the task it performs and the space that would be available if a 2-part solution is needed?

It's kind of hard to explain, but the elevator uses the two frame props for the decking for the up/down slides, that bar keeps the ends from moving outward and making the elevator fall off track.
Here's where it is (in yellow) pic from YoJoe.com Here's a scan of the instructions from 3DJoes.com

It's such a simple piece, I actually thought about making it from wood or aluminum since all it does is prevent the supports from moving outward.

I'm closing in on the final radar dish for the Flagg. I just need to sort out the oddball shape of the dish itself. The rest is pretty much taken care of:

OK, the final Flagg mast array dish is done now. The corners of the dish aren't as round as the original but for now this will do:

Here's where it is (in yellow) pic from YoJoe.com Here's a scan of the instructions from 3DJoes.com If you plan to make any of the Elevator side or back pieces, I would suggest making 2 different back pieces: (1) in the same shape & design as the original piece and (2) a custom design where there side-vertical pieces and top-horizontal piece are a little thicker which allows an open space without the "V" supports. This way, you could actually play/pretend that small vehicles (like the Sky Hawk) were actually being loaded onto the elevator. I'm pretty excited about you making USS Flagg parts. I've posted links to your Shapeways site and this forum on the Facebook USS Flagg "Admirals" group page. Personally, I think the only missing piece I need is the mast cap (and a microphone - but don't really care about that). My son finally left for the USAF. So now that I have my office back, I am ready to move my USS Flagg out of the garage and set up a display for all my Joe stuff in my office. I've been working on a design for a custom 3-level Flagg that will be my primary custom project over the summer. Jason |
