Thanks! No, I haven't really looked at making replacement figure accessories but if the parts are thick enough anything is possible. This nylon material can be very strong, but long and thin pieces need to be a certain diameter to make them hold up to play (generally, about 8/100" and thicker is reasonably durable). If you want just posing and diorama use, then anything larger than about 3/100" in thickness is doable. What are the v1 and v2 you are referring to? If I have those tripods I could tinker around with an articulated version when I have some time.[/QUOTE]
Sorry...I had one of those moments where I assumed everyone was in my head and clearly knew the v1/v2 I was referring to was Roadblock. The v1 ma deuce had what looked to be an accurate tripod for prone firing, but RB would just look like he passed out by his gun if you pose him with it. The v2 vintage version had a larger tripod that looked good with kneeling poses, but there wasn't a modern era release I'm aware of. I could probably track one of the vintage ones down, but if you think you'd recoup your expense/time on something like that I'd rather you get my money. |

WHALE rocket pod arm replacement now in the works...
EDIT: Still needs a bulge added to the corner, but that's about it.... I am also going to make a sturdier redesign that should enjoy a longer lifespan of use. EDIT again: I think this is good enough for a "vanilla" replacement: I'll beef up the arm a bit for another version.

Any would be awesome. The copy of the v1 ma deuce that the 25th RB (2007, listed as v16 on YoJoe) came with or the door guns from the Eaglehawk would be the best/most popular I should think.

Snowcat wiper, a bit more fleshed-out:
OK, I dug out the 25th machine gun you're referring to. How high off of the ground do you want it to sit?

I'm open to suggestions on the vanes. If there isn't any reason you feel the conversation needs to be private you can just post the ideas here for discussion (my PM box tends to hover around 90-ish PMs, so I'm tight on space).
At the moment, this is roughly what comes to mind for a hinge to replace what the originals just used a plastic flap for: It fits in the same space as the original vanes' gap allows, it's beefy enough that it should stand up to use just fine, and functionally it should allow as much range of motion as the horizontal vanes leave room for. The only question is how well it will assemble in the real world. My preferred design would need more space. This design fits an aesthetic demand I have but may not meet physical requirements as a result. I hope these ideas make since without pictures, as I only have hand drawings of these. First idea I have would keep much of the look of the original. It is much as you have done already, but might be a little easier to print. Idea would be to increase the thickness and height of the living hinge area. Then just split the two hinges into four sections placing opposing section on the vane halves. The movable vane would have the top/bottom sections and the non movable vane would have the two middle sections (or even a single section). Though that could be vise versa if you wanted the movable and non to be reversed sections. This would also make it easier to assemble, as you wouldn't need to connect the bottom and top pin of both hinges as in your visual above. Also would keep the pivot point in the original designed location, though we know how that all works out, right? Second idea would be like the flaps on the SHARC. Just add a section on the top and bottom of the vane of either side and notch out on the other. This would change the look of original, but might be the best option for strength. Though might change the pivot point, but you might have better idea of that if your software allows you to test your designs. Third idea would be to turn the vane into a three piece section. As the living hinge section would become a separate piece. Would need to beef up that piece and would need notches added into both sides. I think would be the most complicated of the three, but might ultimately be the closes to what they were trying to go for with the living hinge. I think would keep the original look as the first one, just not sure of the durability of this option. If you don't understand any of these, I will see what I can do with the software at work to come up with some pictures for you. Just let me know either way. Also if you would like to call and discuss any of these, drop me a PM. Sometimes it's easier to describe things over typing them for me. Thanks momaw nadon |
