Wow! That's looking good. I don't think I've ever asked, but do you model using splines, or by modifying primitives?

Thanks! I've tinkered with splines once or twice over the years but I almost exclusively modify primitives. Everything I use for 3d printing has been that way. I would think spline builds would be harder to keep manifold anyway, but NURBS is just one of many things I haven't taught myself to do yet.

I have some new test prints in hand now. First up, the replacement Skystriker engine nozzles:
The "closed" version: And the "open" version:

Here are the "plumbing" fittings which are intended to be used with 1/4" styrene tubes (and 3/16" styrene tubes for the small end of the reducer). These are pictured with "Evergreen Scale Models" brand styrene tubes...
Here are the assorted pieces: And in use: The fit is snug enough to hold up just fine when the assembly is moved and lifted: The large multi-pipe mounting piece needs a support arm built for it still and the single hanger's peg is meant to plug into chain base panels so you can mount plumbing on the base. So far, so good!

Looks good! When did you get ahold of a Skystriker chassis?

That's a vintage frame I picked up a few weeks ago. It was pretty much stripped of parts so I added the couple of parts I had on-hand and I'm still trying to outfit it with landing gear so I can work on the tailhook length. In the meantime, it was enough to measure for the engine nozzles so I went ahead with the test prints for those.

I am looking at scaling the TCS/IRST pod for the vintage Skystriker while also working out the overall mounting position and method. I am planning on a 0.35" tall stud of a diameter that should fit snugly into the screw hole under the pilot's feet without hitting the head of the screw. That way it will just be a push-in, pull-out accessory held in by friction. I also put a groove in the stud so those who think a tight plastic-to-plastic installation might risk distress to their Skystriker frame can simply sand down the stud's diameter until the fit is effortless sliding, then they can put a few orthodontic rubber bands, some blue sticky tack, or an o-ring onto the stud inside the groove and rely on that rubber to maintain the TCS/IRST pod's installation. So in essence, it's a 2-in-1 stud that allows the user to choose their preferred mounting method.
Smoothed a bit... With that said, here is the scale and position I am looking at so far: I added that black smudge to the Skystriker photo (from YoeJoe) as a marker for the approximate location of the screw hole's center. What do you guys think about the size and the position of the TCS/IRST pod?

Looks good to me...
I really want some of those pipes... are you going to sell them in a big kit?

Since the fittings are basically all hollow tubes themselves I can sprue them by running a rod through the openings without ever actually connecting to the parts except for the end caps. For example, here is how the test print was arranged: The sprue only connects with the inside of the cleanout, the inside of the end cap, and with a sacrificial dummy disc (not visible in the picture) that I added on the end of the 3rd rod just to connect that set. That means no trimming and no blemishes on any of the exterior areas. Yay! I still have to build a couple of versions of attachable support arm for the multi-pipe bracket (which will be available in 2, 3, 4, and 5-pipe bracketing) and I have to get a reliable peg size established to work in the chain bases so these things can be firmly attached to the chain base holes. After that, there is a little refinement to do on some of the fittings just to make them look better and I also want to make a few more fitting types before I release them. But all in all, they are well on their way to becoming available. The first test went as well as I ever could have hoped. Once the plumbing fittings are live I plan to start work on some steam pipe fittings and valves as well.

I finally found a half-way decent reference image of the back side of the TCS/IRST pod, so I think I am getting very near test print time on this one.
