Sorry, I forgot to reply to this earlier. The basic problem is that the pegs are too long to coexist in the same lower torso. You have to cut or replace one peg or the other. I completely understand the desire to avoid cracking bodies though.

Would there be any interest in a "prone" position neck peg barbell for making sniping poses? They would be a niche item in an already niche market, but if there is enough interest I can work on it.

Is there a cost difference in the rigid, 2-piece design torso versus the softer plastic, one-piece mold? Jason |

I wonder why these companies don't build their action figures with the softer plastics for the torsos so that you can "pop" the joint fittings into place? Sort of like some of the Star Wars figures (Med Frigate Luke); which is how, I think, Planet Green Valley is making their action figures.
Is there a cost difference in the rigid, 2-piece design torso versus the softer plastic, one-piece mold? Jason With respect to a re-imagining of the BFS-to-MTF adapters, I've wondered before about just replacing the rod and ball in the BFS upper torso with a rod and cup to attach it to the MTF waist ball. That would eliminate any need to crack the waist, but two things have stopped me from even trying. First, I think it might alter the pivot point of the torso joint in a way that would cause trouble with the functioning of the articulation. Second, I've never wanted to risk breaking a BFS figure by trying to remove that rod and ball from the upper since their plastics can be so fragile. Have you ever tried it, and if so, any breakage issues? If it's stupidly easy and safe to remove the pins from the uppers I'm willing to draft a replacement pin to use instead of the current t-bar replacement. If the articulation still functions properly with the new, elevated position of the joint then there wouldn't be any reason not to change methods. That would even simplify the issues with MTF changing their waist ball diameters with the new releases since the cup can accommodate that small amount of variation in the waist ball size. EDIT: OK, so I just did a boil and pop test and that upper torso pin is very easy to remove. There isn't much at all holding it in: I'll have to do some math and thinking, but a non-destructive pin swap might be viable if I can make a cup large enough to fit the MTF ball while still fitting inside the BFS lower torso interior dimensions AND while keeping enough material in the cup to remain strong. I wish I'd tried this sooner. Hopefully some good will come of it. EDIT again: I made a quick model to start from. If there is room to pull this off, this is roughly what the new adapter will look like... I'll try to get some good measurements this evening and mock up the available space to see if this type of adapter will fit.

OK, so I butchered an old test piece adapter to act as an approximation of this new design. It works...kind of. Overall, the joint still seems to function correctly in terms of rotating around the lower torso and not simply binding into the side of it, so that's a win. However, the "cup" - being now attached to the top half of the torso rather than to the waist - makes it so the lower torso wants to (and absolutely WILL) move with the upper torso, essentially turning the articulation from mid-torso to waist articulation. That doesn't fly with the flat-bottomed lower torsos on BFS figures. So in order to make this work I will have to develop a cup slim enough to NOT grab the lower torso at all while at the same time developing a separate piece to clip around the waist post of the MTF figure so that the BFS lower torso can grip into that instead.
It won't be as straight-forward and simple as I would have preferred, but there is still hope for this alternative method. Here is my first revision to the cup. More rounded on the open end: I am going to make a few more hacked-down versions and do some test prints to see how much material I can get away with removing while still having a good grip.

Whipped up a few possible designs for the spacer ring to go around the MTF waist pin to get the BFS lower torso to grip onto the MTF waist...
The basic installation process would be something like this (the light grey part being an unaltered MTF waist section): I just need to find a way to minimize contact between the spacer ring's top edge (which holds it against the MTF waist ball so the spacer doesn't have vertical movement) and the replacement pin's cup lip. This is where multiple revisions and lots of test fitting comes into play... EDIT: The first test batch is sprued up and ready for printing...

I found a decent "beefy" male torso model (under CC-Zero license, so I can play with it all I want) and I am playing around with creating a 4-armed upper torso piece to plug into the male BFS blank body:
There is still plenty of editing and cleanup to do, but this is the general idea. I plan to stretch the upper section for more width to overhang the lower set of arms (and draw in the lower set of arms at the same time to help with this), expand the height of the upper set of pecs, and turn the lower set of pecs into either a smaller pec set or just another row of abs. I am still really, really bad with modeling organic shapes though so this will be slow going for me. When it's all said and done, if this prints well enough it will be good for 1:18 Goro (from Mortal Kombat) customs, mythological/fantasy creatures, or whatever other 4-armed hulking figures you can imagine.

Also, repair parts in the works to replace your broken BFS t-bars...

Adapters for the new wave of MTF figures with different t-bars than the original troopers:
Adapters for Joe legs on MTF bodies: I need to make some adjustments still to fine tune things, but I am picking this project back up since there has been some rumblings of interest...
