Thanks for the feedback. I have a few questions if you will indulge me:
It's possible that the print tolerance went wildly off base, but it's also possible that my HACKS and/or your particular HACKS figure's tolerance is the issue. If you can answer all of the above in as great detail as possible that will help to narrow down the source of the issue. If you just got a bad print I can send you some of my parts I have on-hand, but if the HACKS figures I based my development pieces on were tighter in the socket than most other HACKS then a diameter update will be in order. I'm also going to try to boil the torso and see if that tightens the neck socket up a bit. To the eye, the balls looks to be the same size.

Here's some answers:
[*]Do any of the other barbells in that set fit that figure's neck socket properly? No, they all appear to be the same size. [*]Do other BFS neck barbells (from different blank figures in particular) fit properly on the figure that the printed barbell is loose on? Yes. [*]Which specific figure are you using it in? (A blank? If so which color? A specific non-blank? A zombie lab figure?) BFS Sandstone blank [*]Does the printed neck ball fit any other available male blank correctly, or is it loose in everything? Also loose on Knight, Vehemous, G1 blank, G1 Greek. Slightly less loose on the generation 1 figures, but still bobbily. [*]Does the peg fit in the female neck correctly? Too large for the female [*]Did you get any other adapter types in your order, and if so are they fitting properly? Female barbells seem fine.

It's a totally separate piece that lifts out easily once the waist is split. Well, on the males it lifts out easily. On the females it is glued to the crotch a bit and you have to work it loose. That's less easy. But in either case, it's a separate piece so no dremel work is necessary.
Here is an old photo I have on-hand that shows what they look like (male piece on the far left, female piece next to that, still not totally removed from the gluing): To anyone out there: are there any best practices for splitting the lower torso without damaging the seam? Does boiling help? Last edited by Dod Ear; 12-04-2018 at 10:07 PM.. |

If you're doing a male torso, don't forget to modify the lower torso so that it fits down into the waist slightly. There are images up-thread a bit that illustrate the target depth.

I am also working with axonrey to examine some of his loose-fitting parts and work on a possible update to the barbell diameter. The goal is to make a barbell that will be snug in a slightly stretched socket (as his figures appear to have been straight from the factory) while still fitting in an unstretched socket. That way it should be most convenient for all users right out of the box. I will update the thread and let you all know if there are any changes. In the meantime, if anyone has any issues with the fit of their neck barbells or torso adapters, please let me know. My sample size for HACKS figures was pretty small while developing these so it's possible my BFS items are outliers in some way or another. I will also update the Shapeways listings with this tip. If anyone who is a member of the BFS and MTF Facebook groups could post this info there as well, I'd appreciate it since I can't reach out to folks over there myself. Thanks all!

Well, I added the info to each of the adapter listings (both neck barbell sets and both torso adapter sets) and for some reason when I saved the changes Shapeways set the torso adapters to private-not-for-sale items all of a sudden - pending review by the Shapeways team. I'm not sure what that is about, but for the time being the torso adapters are not available on Shapeways anymore. I'll update you guys if/when that changes.
UPDATE (2018/12/07): I wrote to Shapeways early yesterday afternoon to ask about why the two listings were pulled down (some type of auto-filter or something?) but I have yet to hear back on that so far. However, in the meantime, the two listings have passed Shapeways' review and are back up live on the shop again. I received an automated email notification for each of those two listings saying that they had passed review and are back up, but there was no detail about how they passed review or why review was initiated.

I had a test print arrive today that included my first attempt of the female version of Joe-Legs-on-MTF adapter:
Torso sits too high: I think the hip width is a pretty good setting as-is but I need to reduce the main torso peg length and adjust ball diameters for the torso and hips. Things are a bit too loose all around.

Merry Christmas! I've made a price drop on all adapter sets, now and at least through New Year's:
$3.00 off torso adapter 5-packs (male and female) $2.50 off neck barbell 32-packs (male and female) $3.00 off the "sampler" combo pack (which has a little bit of everything)
