So...we have 1:18 GI Joe toys to play with, but what do our 1:18 Joes play with? How about 1:18 scale miniatures of 1:18 scale toys? I modeled these for just that purpose:
And here they are in the flesh... Stinger (missile rack broke off, so it needs a bit of beefing up in the design), Vamp, Vamp Mk II: Mauler MBT: The Mauler turret is meant to install and be able to swivel, but the spare wheel on the back deck is too close to allow the turret to actually rotate on the current design. A little tweak to the bogie wheel placement and it will be functional as intended! This material is supposed to take paint well, so these are going to turn out pretty cool. For now, here they are on the tactical map table from M&C Toys:

Cool stuff man. Resin printers can get such tiny detail.

These are the smallest things I have ever tried to paint and while I should have taken my time at a proper work station (and I should have primered them first as well, but...), I went ahead and threw some color on these at a table in my poorly-lit basement...quite sloppily... But even in this crappy state, despite my lack of patience and skill, the color still really adds some charm:
I got about a half-dozen of each, so I have some ability to be careless at least this once.

Those look great. Even before I scrolled down I thought they'd look good on that battle map table.

Wow! I'm not gonna lie; I'm envious as hell of that printer's capabilities. The models are great, too!

So, what did you have these printed with? I'm guessing you went through Shapeways again; what material and/or options did you use?

I saw these on your Shapeways site and thought then that they'd look great on that battlefield map.
It also reminds me of that scene from the GIJoe cartoon where Stalker films the video of the tanks and helicopters then Gung-Ho steps in and picks one up. I think your next 1:324 scale should be a HISS tank. Jason |
