For now, here are some shots of the (now-discontinued) black acrylate in action. I ordered a small sprue of Stingers in black acrylate at the 11th hour before they discontinued the material at Shapeways. I modified the sculpt to strengthen some aspects, and the material requirements for the acrylate required me to abandon the small fins on the missiles (plus since I was in a hurry I just made the missile bodies a simple cylinder, which I now kind of regret...but it was better than missing the ordering window and not getting these at all). This material is a lot stronger (or at least less brittle) than the frosted detail plastic and it would almost certainly have been my preferred material for all of my miniature stuff. I hope they bring it back, and soon! The material they say should be used to replace black acrylate for fine detail work is their "black professional plastic" for which I also printed a test sprue of Stingers and with which I have taken the following comparison shot: The black acrylate is on the top/right and the "black professional plastic" is on the bottom/left. Is this a suitable replacement material? I say it isn't, but you be the judge...

I definitely don't care for the new plastic, but maybe it paints up better...? It doesn't really look like a net gain in terms of print clarity. The acrylate was a bit waxy, but overall was very nice.

I put a bit of paint on one of the acrylate Stingers. Once again, no workbench, no lighting, and no skill, so pardon the mess!
And if you thought the mini vehicles were adorable, check out the orphaned Stinger missiles from my first print attempt: And the broken-off missile racks... Just in case anyone was wondering why I made this version's missiles overly stout...that's why!

I've been distracted by other projects lately, but I spent some time tonight getting treads onto the tank and roughing-in the turret...
I'm also dragging my feet on this one because I really don't look forward to the tedious detail work on the "innards" of the tread area between the bogie wheels. It's so much work but adds so little to the otherwise-simple model. But I want the model to be fairly accurate, so I kind of HAVE to do it. Ah well, I'll dive into it soon I guess.

I talked myself into starting the tedium this evening. Here are the results so far...

I finally forced myself to finish the details on the track area...
A little more work with the turret and I'll call this one done.

Thanks!
I had to thicken the treads to make it printable. Here is the current Shapeways render: I still need to add a few details to the turret before I'll be satisfied...
