I saw these on your Shapeways site and thought then that they'd look great on that battlefield map.
It also reminds me of that scene from the GIJoe cartoon where Stalker films the video of the tanks and helicopters then Gung-Ho steps in and picks one up. I think your next 1:324 scale should be a HISS tank. Jason For these prints, I ordered a test batch of a combination of sprued Vamps, Stingers, and two separate types of Mauler models that I made up just to test to see how everything ends up in terms of final detail level and weak spots (breakage areas and such). The jeeps all have very fragile brush guards on the front bumpers, the Stingers' rear handle bar - while stronger than the brush guards up front - is easy to break if you aren't careful, and the Stingers' missiles and missile racks ALL arrived loose and in the bag from Shapeways. Not a one of them survived shipping, so I am going to strengthen that quite a bit. Everything else about them is pretty robust. So I am working on the models to make them better survive shipping, de-spruing, and painting. I am probably going to have a version that has "maximum detail accuracy" and then a "sturdy" version that is easier to paint and play with without breaking the super-thin parts off of. As for a 1:324 HISS...yup. I have a HISS and a HISS II both on my list of things to tackle for this as well. The HISS will be a relatively easy vehicle to model, too. That Mauler was a nightmare of detail!

What about the Chess Boards? Should we order them through Shapeways? I'm very interested in getting one of the "played" chess boards with pieces. Thanks.

Either way, if you think you might want a "game start" and a mid-game version, or two different mid-game versions, or whatever just let me know which specific versions you want (and which material) and I can set up a 2-pack (sprued) to add to Shapeways that should make it cheaper than buying two sets individually. I can also add an army of spare chess pieces if you want. Anything goes.

Really cool! They look perfect for the map table. Is there any plans to make a vehicle assortment with a smaller quantity of each vehicle all on one sprue? Or is something like that even possible on Shapeways? I'm hoping a tiny Terrordrome is on your to do list.

Thanks! Yeah, I plan to make an assortment sprue with maybe 4 each of five different vehicles (Vamp, Vamp Mk II, Stinger, HISS, and ???) so people who aren't looking to army build masses of one thing can still get a good value. I just need to model a couple of more things of about the same size as the basic Vamp platform before that can happen.
Any suggestions? In any event, I can't state enough how impressed I am with how well these turned out. I doubt a printer of that quality is in my budget, but I guess I can dream...

As for another item for the assortment, how about a Snow Cat/Basilisk? In any event, I can't state enough how impressed I am with how well these turned out. I doubt a printer of that quality is in my budget, but I guess I can dream... Today while I was showing my kids what 3D printing is I came across this video, which shows a resin printer for under $2k: It's the Peopoly Moai, which sports a 70 micron laser spot with as little as 5 micron layer thickness (depending on resin). Right now on matterhackers the price is listed at $1,295 with free US shipping for the kit or $1,695 with free US shipping for the assembled unit.

Snowcat would be doable, for sure. Shapeways recently stopped offering the Black Acrylate (which was a WONDERFUL material for the palm scanner I made) and that had me look at some resin printers on a whim. A lot of the options I saw were in the $3,500 range. On top of that, you need an alcohol bath (people use a jewelry sonic cleaner tank pretty commonly) and a UV curing cabinet...or in your case, sunny CA weather.

This is equal parts hilarious, awesome, and cute. If you end up modeling most of the popular vehicles, I'd pick up a set for sure.
