Easiest paint mod ever, just get some blue paint. There is also low risk of paint rub (maybe on the shoulder pads) and even a rank beginner can do such a paint application. With the MARS three packs still floating around for $6-$10, it is also a cheap way to get a Blue Shirt Squad.
Next step (?)- Paint webgear blue (not sure if it is a good idea), and find a way to add a holster to a legs or get some gunbelts that will fit under the webgear (their legs are uninteresting). Suggestions welcome! (Still waiting for my Russian Troopers from China). |

have to watch painting soft rubber. sometimes some paints do not fully dry and just stay tacky. you can airbrush some future floor wax and try and seal it in. one of those things you dont know till you try i guess. i've just gotten into the habit of not painting soft flexible things like hands too. the paint just flakes off when flexed. but thats just me

Hands can be an issue for sure. I think I will try alcohol based permanent marker on those and joints. Preliminary test have been so far so good. Working up to painting my radioactive snake eyes black.

Due to the red grenades on the Mars Trooper, in my mind they are a combo Viper/CT. To this end I think I will add more red trim. A bit to the gauntlets under the blue shell and the “knee pads”. These small mods should make the figs pop more. Also, I picked up the DG blue CC, so my army now has a leader!

How is the Mecha paint with Mecha primer and varnish on the joints?

Bright red kneepads really work! I also gave the kids a choice between red and black cuffs, of course they chose the option that requires a bit more work. Tonight I will put two coats of red on the cuffs. In addition, I will varnish the black wash I have used over the eyes (not seen in below picture). Their eyes are very derpy, they looks much meaner now.
I may end of directly glueing their pistols to their legs as a visually interesting item. The pistols are unusable so they won't be missed. CA glue or something more solvently? Finally, I used a Pyrrole red paint, for a lightfast bright red. It is the best red pigment outside of Cadmiums (which are toxic). I don't trust hobby or craft paint suppliers to use such a premium pigment (they do not list their pigments and the cheaper reds are not lightfast), so I recommend you pick up a Liquitex Soft, Golden, or Americana Premium single pigment Pyrrole red paint for lightfast red. If a Vallejo red is listed as not safe to spray, it probably has a Cadmium, so that is also a good lightfast paint, but toxic. Last edited by Bubbavader; 01-31-2018 at 05:37 AM.. |
