What is the price you would charge for it? Do you sell via ebay? Do you have a website?

That's awesome, the level of detail is very impressive! What model printer did you use? Did the program you used to design the trailer come with it? How easy or difficult was it to learn to use? Wow so many questions! You have to realize you've just accomplished something most of us wish we could do, well done sir!

I appreciate everyones' interest, thank you. The printer is an Up Box +. It is certainly not your entry level printer, the level of sharp detail it can do relative to cheaper printers is impressive, and I invested the extra money for this. I've been doing 3D modelling for work on and off for many years, and I used an old program at work called autocad to model this trailer. It's somewhat difficult to learn to use, as you really need to master 2D engineering drawings before you can get into 3D, but it was a long time ago that I learned this, and there are likely better, more intuitive programs out there now. This was my first attempt at printing something for GI Joe scale. The bright green colour is used here only for a test, as that's all I had lying around. I will get some black and dark grey material. Not many people make olive drab material, but it is available, however more expensive. The material costs between $40 and $70 a kilogram (2.2 lbs). A lot is used just in printing 'support structure' to print the actual piece.
I don't have a website, but if I get a few more ideas that interest people, then that could be a possibility. When better coloured material arrives I look forward to printing some final versions of this, and if they turn out well, and if there's interest then I'm happy to offer them up for sale, on ebay or otherwise. This version took about 12 hours to print at 0.2mm resolution, however I'm hoping to print the final versions at 0.1mm resolution, which will obviously take longer. As I mention in the opening post, the sledgehammer is modelled off Tollbotth's sledgehammer, so Tollbooth's actual sledgehammer also fits perfectly in the clips. |

why not build off what you already have and make add on bits.
a stake bed side or tubes that a canvase top would go over. a hard canvase looking top to pop on. a drop in "box" with a door that opens. it would be like a mobile shed. or the really cool one would be to have a gun mount for a 50 cal so a bad guy can stand back there and be towed by his beat up toyota pick up if you get my meaning. mount a removeable jerry can on one side and a tire on the other. id be interested in something like these for the right price. i've often wanted to buy some printed things i've seen online but i hear the clean up time makes it a pain and by that i mean there are fine lines in the piece from the printed layers that need to be sanded down by hand. i know that the better the printer the less the lines. how much clean up time would you guess would be needed on that trailer? |

I got some black filament in the mail, so I printed out a black trailer. At 0.1mm resolution, the trailer body alone took 21 hours to print. I printed all the other parts separate. I was supposed to have some grey filament by now, which I was going to use for the wheel hubs, but it still hasn't arrived. In the meantime I've just taken a few photos using the existing green wheel hubs. The black plastic filament shows up imperfections fairly easy. As is with most plastics, it turns white when stressed, so any artifacts that I try to remove from an otherwise smooth surface tends to leave a white mark. Maybe I could just touch it with a black sharpie marker to sort that out. When I receive my grey filament I will print the correct wheel hubs and post the final product! In the meantime, below are some pics...

Will the printer be able to replicate, say, a Coastal Defender that's a little bigger in size to fit ME Joes a little better than the vintage one does?

If a 3D model of the coastal defender already exists, then it's a fairly trivial process to scale it up 5-10% and hit print. However if no model exists then one will have to be modelled, which would obviously take some time.
