I have a large number of custom projects that have been forced onto the way back-burner for well over a year now, but this weekend I've finally gotten around to starting some of the actual work (I've only gotten as far as dismantling them).
The first is a crappy Police armored truck I bought on Amazon for $15. From Liberty Imports, it was full of electrical wiring, flashing lights, a speaker and one of those random center bottom wheel sets that move it around like a liquored-up Mr. Magoo is in the driver seat. I cleaned out all that crap and dismantled it 20 minutes after taking it out of the box and annoying my cats with it. The front two doors open, as well as a roof hatch, but that was all it had. The front seating area is way too small, and I thought I could cut out the floor and firewall to give any figures more room, but even so the seat is too close to the roof, so I'll have to find a way around that. But I also wanted the backseat doors and rear door to function, so I cut those out. I managed to do a halfway decent job, conserving all three cut out doors and avoiding any need to scratch build my own replacement doors. I'll give it a lift and a v-hull eventually, replacing the tires for something a little beefier. I may use the tires that came with this on another technical truck project I have, but I've been struggling trying to find any reasonable replacement tires for either. I'll also add a set of rear passenger seats, gunners platform and troop seats in the cargo area. The second is a World Peacekeepers IFV Infantry Fighting Vehicle, based on... I'm not sure. From what I can tell it most closely resembles a Chinese Type 90/WZ551 Wheeled Armored Vehicle. I have two of these I want to improve in the same fashion: add a functional rear hatch, cut out the figure "pods" and make a more realistic interior with seats and driver and gunner stations. So far I've only eliminated those pods and painstakingly cut away the rear hatch with an x-acto knife. Interestingly enough, I think I can use the molded in door hinges for an actual hinged door once I get that far. Long road ahead, but here's my work so far. (Sorry for the sideways photos.)

That SWAT truck doesn't make a bad armored VAMP - nice find!
Looking forward to your progress. |

4" tall from belly to roof, 10" long and 4.75" wide. It is a decent sculpt and has a lot of potential. Unfortunately it will be a slow build as I don't have a lot of time to devote to working on it, but I do think it should make a nice MRAP for my troops.

Look up Russian APC by Chickenbroth. He did a nice job customizing a WZ551 APC and posted lots of pictures while he worked on it. These might give you some ideas on some things you may want to do with yours

This looks awesome, and is very similar to what I plan on doing. Good memory in recalling that.

I cast my own wheels....I hate looking for the right size and feel for the vehicle at the time. I understand how you feel about the wheels.
