A few years ago, I mocked up a 1/18 scale version of the classic "Republic Serial Robot" (aka "Doctor Satan's Robot") from numerous old movie serials of the 1930s-50s.
Well, now I'm proud to unveil a more precise rendition, accomplished via 3D printing, and a careful study of period film clips, movie stills, and water heater specifications! As yet unpainted, obviously. The limb and leg tubes are supplied by plastic fishing lures, threaded through with craft wire, which also serves as the figure's "skeleton." One could probably also use a Joe or like-sized figure for the same purpose, using the robot shell almost as a "suit," although the figure's feet might need to be trimmed or removed, and the arms might be a tricky fit unless the forearms were removed, at least temporarily. "Crush! Kill! Destroy!" "To live, like the hu-man! To...laugh, like the hu-man!" "You're ugly! Horrible! You think you're gonna make a slave of the world? I'll see you in hell, first!" So...anyone interested in one? |

Anyways, I do think I recollect seeing this in a movie; or, something very similar to it. There was a bunch of them in a battle with the military. Since the robots' bodies were bulletproof, the soldiers had to shoot them in the "eye" to disable them. |
