I agree. I can put the stuff up on Shapeways, and probably will, but much of it would be prohibitively expensive that way. I want to get the stuff cast for mass-production, but I don't have the means to do so yet. I'm looking for a new 3D printer in the meanwhile so I can do some more home-made prints, but I'd have to shell out a couple thousand dollars to get something that is likely to be able to make prints that are sale-worthy. Which may pay off in the long-run, but in the short-term, ouch.

Yeah, that crate looks finished to me now. So what's next up to be modeled?

Dunno yet. I still need to add wood grain to my wooden crate, but I'm inclined to restart the model altogether since I learned a few tricks making the metal crate. Likewise, I need to add the concrete grain to my Jersey Barrier. With that said, I think I'm going to start on some wooden ammo crates, like the one shown in the attachment; one for sized for artillery shells, and one for holding M2A1 cases.
I also need to start on a Czech Hedgehog model. I plan on having 2 size variants of that, and they aren't going to simply be re-scaled versions of each other. Honestly, I have a whole list of stuff to tackle; it mostly comes down to what sounds least annoying to work on at the time. :3

I finally committed to a new 3D printer; a Zortrax M200. Received it a few days ago. I got it set up, and just ran a couple test models on it, including one pre-provided model, and afterwards, my M2A1 ammo case. It's a little hard to tell from the photos, especially since I used pearl white plastic for the test print, but it's MUCH crisper than the versions my previous printer put out.
A size comparison against a modern Elite Force figure: Although part of the latches on the front weren't printed (possibly too small of a detail for the zcode generator?), overall detail of the 3D model is preserved much better than before. I think I might have to blow out the proportions a little bit more to get the details to "pop", but this is very promising. I'll be running some more test prints in the next day or so, starting with some of my existing models to see how well the prints are improved.

Got another version printed in a much more appropriate "olive" color. The detail pops much better on this color, though it's clear that the slicer isn't handling the vertical portions of the front latches well. I'll definitely have to blow those details out for the purposes of this printer. Overall, though, it turned out very clean.

For another, I'm not sure if I am even allowed to suggest selling 3D prints due to rules regarding conducting transactions of custom casts using the 'Tank--I don't have a storefront yet to simply link to. However, if you want to PM me, I wouldn't mind arranging to print up a few samples for you.

ever thought of making some MRE packs? or an old style foot locker? what i could really use is a bank vault door, with the big spinning handle. this can be down scaled to a gun safe door etc.

MREs, footlockers, and even safes are all within the realm of possibility (though I'm not sure how exciting an MRE would look without the ability to paint it); I'll definitely look into those. The teleport pod? Probably not feasible to print with my current hardware, but I can't say it wouldn't be awesome.
