Hello all, I could use some advice on this one.
I have done a few customs before, but I don't usually post anything here. I don't think my work is nearly as good as a lot of the customs I see on the Tank, but I'm kind of stuck here and wondering if anybody can help. I'm working on Fast Draw here (hopefully you could tell who it was) and I've pretty much got the body done. I have a vintage backpack and visor for him, but the problem is the visor is so big I'm not sure how to attach it to any modern helmet. I saw a Fast Draw on JoeCustoms that attached the visor to a ROC accelerator suit helmet. Has anyone else tried that somehow or used a different helmet with that visor? I have several heads that I can use to fit whatever helmet I need. If the accelerator suit helmet is the way to go, does anyone have one to trade? (maybe somebody who chopped up an accelerator suit to make a Robo Joe?) Anyway, thanks for looking, and hopefully I get some ideas to finish this one. |

Hey mate, I dig what you've got working here and I'd be happy to send off an extra Acc. Suit helmet for you. I'm in Oz though and it could take a couple weeks, so it's up to you. PM if interested!

Hmm. I would think that helmet may look rather large on that torso. Maybe it's just me. But as for a way to connect the vintage visor to the accel. Helmet, I know just a way.
If you have any place that sells styrene around you, go check out their round rod selection and see if there is one roughly the same size as the holes in the vintage visor. Taking it with you would probably be the best idea. Once you find the right size, you will need to mod the accel. Helmet by drilling holes for the styrene rods. Make sure you put the helmet on the figure's head and measure where it will need to sit, once you figure out that, try and use something to mark where the rods need to be through the holes of the visor on the helmet. Then it's drill, glue, fill in the inside with putty or green stuff, not too thick though so it will be easy to sand down if need be, and trim down the rod to desired length and paint. Viola, Fin, done.

Thanks for the responses guys. Judd, I might take that helmet. Magick, thanks for the detailed idea. I might do that if I have to, but I think the accelorator suit helmet already has a moveable visor. The first thing I'm going to try is just attaching the new visor to the moveable part. I don't know if that will work, I might have to do what you said, we'll see. I just hope that helmet is a good fit width wise for the Fast Draw Visor.
Also, sorry my pics are sideways up there, I'm clearly new at this and don't know what I'm doing. |

Fast Draw is looking great- very nice paint apps and part choices there. sounds like you have a good lock on the helmet so I'm looking forward to seeing a finished product here soon.

Very nice looking WIP. If you want an idea of how big the Accelerator suit helmet is on that body, here's how it looks on mine. I used the same head and body as yours.
That vintage visor is just too big for any modern figures I think I thought of doing that but in the end, thought better of it. The other option you might have is to hollow out a vintage Fast Draw helmet and use that, but the helmet would look over sized.
