Thanks for the explanation for the upscaling, I did find a Sunbow screen grab although rather poor quality that shows they were indeed smaller than a man or in this case, a woman, Lady Jaye.
http://www.joetoonarchive.com/albums/Movie%202/0015.gif I personally would vote for the more cartoon accurate and toy representational scale. I always thought their smaller size was part of their appeal. The miniaturization of technology. Just like the current EOD robots we have which are even smaller than a PAC RAT would be.

There is some discrepancy between the two of those. if you compare the machine gun PR, the tv version has the wheels up to knee height, while the toy is barely above the boot. that's about a 15-20% variation. As far as what i intend to produce, i will always try to lean towards realism rather than being dead on to the original (Since I don't know what I'll need to do for licensing sake, i can at least claim they are "inspired by the original toys" but be different enough to not get me in trouble). This will mean major mods to the machine gun PR, it's got to be big enough to hold enough ammo for 4 MGs, now these could be mini-guns, or M2A1 .50 Cals, (cast your vote now for which one of those) but I'll atleast try to put more definition into them than the original. The flame thrower will need a gas tank or 2, which may take the place of the belly mounted lasers (a more protected location than simply mounting on top). |

These PAC/RATS are going to be great! I figure it's too early to tell but I'll ask anyways...what other things, GI Joe wise, do you have on your drawing board? I would love a Alpha Checkpoint, a Cobra Bunker and a Surveillance Port that is a little more in scale, like a little bigger. I kickstarter would be great.

Pac Rat for print front panel by LodeCreative, on Flickr
Just launched a print of the front panel. Probably a little underdetailed, but this is just the alpha model, Beta will get more fine detail work. Print time estimate is over 9 hours and 60+ meters of filament |

I've got an ever growing list, but some of the top items are upgrade kits for existing ARAH toys like an MLRS conversion, canopy and side skirts for the Wolverine Wolverine MKII by LodeCreative, on Flickr and armoring of the APC APC Upgrade by LodeCreative, on Flickr but also some complete redesigns of classics and a few originals Arctos - AMP by LodeCreative, on Flickr Cobra APC - 1 by LodeCreative, on Flickr Flight Pod II by LodeCreative, on Flickr Barracuda II - blue by LodeCreative, on Flickr DragonHawk by LodeCreative, on Flickr camo - Goshawk - 5 by LodeCreative, on Flickr Sand Stinger HMV 1 by LodeCreative, on Flickr These would all be for the modern 4" figures. The Pac/Rat is serving as a learning experience to be able to do more in the future. I liked the pac/rat because it has natural parting lines that break the unit up for easy printing without a ton of splicing. Full vehicles will have to be built in multiple parts and fused, unless i can find much larger printers (current build volume is 8"x8"). |

This is the only one i've drawn so far. will need some parting to fit the printer at 1/6, but could easily knock out for 4" joes. |

Dude I like what you are doing here! Not only are you designing new generations G.I. Joe vehicles and play sets with nods to the originals; but you are trying your run at making a physical prototypes! Awesome stuff!
If that Check Point Alpha was re-released; I would hope that it is a little taller for modern Joe figures! There needs to be swinging gate on the opposite side too! |
