Ive had this Apache for a while now, bought it sealed in box at a toy collector's convention a few years ago. I had never seen this Joe vehicle before that day, didnt know anything about it. Like how its incredibly tiny even by joe-scale comparison, or like how it was actually a toy from a differnt toy line and was hastely put into the Joe releases for that year. As a result It dossent fit joe figures.
Still no matter how dissapointed I was I couldnt bring myself to get rid of it. I dont know if its rare, I dont really care, but I havent seen many of them so I decided to hack it up and mod it in hopes of incorporating it into my air-cav. heres what I have so far: next Im working on the canopy, its tricky cause I have to make it wider then it is but I got some ideas. thanks for looking.

I am so sorry you bought that thing. I had one back in the 90's, did not fit ARAH figures, sure as hell would not fit the ME figures. It was SOOOOO underscaled, even more so compared to such vehicles like the ROC Dragonhawk. The only good thing about that vehicle were the stickers (but it would be better if Cobrastickers came out with a better set, HINT, HINT). If I were you, I would get the TRU Apache AH-74, paint it tan and use those stickers on it. You will get a better satisfaction from that than that disappointment. Again, I feel your pain, but if you want a decent Apache, get the TRU version.

So far its fitting most of my ME figures so I should be able to finish up the canopy and post pics soon.

I have a couple of the BBi Apaches. Love them, but they are HUGE.

Very interesting history lesson! I didn't know about this vehicle and it's scale problems. Hope you can make something cool from it.

Well the canopy didnt come out very well but its the best I could do for now.
I had to make the rear of the canopy wider on the inside since ME style figures need a little bit of extra arm-room. I dont know if you can tell but what I did was glue a flat piece of styrene on the outer frame of the canopy and then cut it so there was room and glue yet another piece on top to cover the piece I had just cut. The end result is the figure sits lower and the canopy accomodates the extra arm room so you can completely close it.

That new canopy is a lot better man, good improvement.
Before I read that you wanted to keep this thing, I was going to suggest buying a True Heroes Apache and just repainting it. |
