First of all, let me acknowledge Capt. DP, as this was brought on by the version he did a while back. Nice one! Been wanting to work on this for a while, and now that things are slowly getting caught up I took a few hours and did something new.
This will be Gung Ho (or any other Marine) in Dress Blues. What you see below if about half finished WIPS at the moment. I'll be adding some more detail to the figure as time allows including: -Master Sargeant's Chevron sculpted on each sleeve -sleeve cuff detail on lower arms -stripes on the pants legs -re-work the belt/buckle to look more correct -sculpt the ribbons on the upper chest -add rifle strap -cast RAH sword so I can put the new blade on it for the finished piece -sculpt a working sword scabbard loop on the belt -make molds and cast the whole thing The medals/badges/emblem were all made using a press mold from the RAH figure and I think they will look good once the figure is cast and you can drybrush the details over the base color. I didn't really think I had the skill level to get proper enough detail so that I would be satisfied with the finished work overall. The hat was made using a cast of the old BBI Police hat as a base for the brim and the rest was dremeled away and re-sculpted. I know that no self-respecting Marine would allow that many folds in his dress uniform, but I left them for the sake of dynamic sculpt. Any thoughts? Looking good, A!
What about a Crimson Guard sleeves? The Ace/Wild Bill sleeves are a bit bland... .

I'll be adding the proper detail to them before they get cast. I chose those more for the shape than anything else (the upper were because of the length though due to the shorter Ace forearms).

oh wow, dude...
this figure was on my list as soon as i got back in to joes in 08 after finding the 25th. sadly, i didn't think there was any hope in this figure being made, seen a thread where ppl bashed him, and i didn't understand that, casue i thought the figure kicked ass in its day. i can't wait to see this figure when it's done, so far this shit is sick as hell.. will you be molding the parts in the right colors, so where you would just have to paint details? or will the whole figure have to be painted. |

UnC- Yes, he will be cast in all the correct base colors. Navy Blue jacket, lighter blue trousers, gloss black shoes, flesh head, white hat and rifle and gold metallic sword. And I agree, he was always one of my faves back in 1987. Besides, who is to say he's not on Embassy guard duty undercover trying to foil some terror attack?
M-Yeah, those Ace hands are pretty poor looking. I am definitely using something else (Crazylegs) with the proper stitching on the back and a better overall shape. The legs are indeed SDCC Destro 2 pk. I took one apart to cast most of the figure to do a Daniel Craig James Bond a while back. P- Indeed. |

Looking good so far. Is this going to be back on your site when you are back taking orders? What other great things do you have going on?
