Smooth-On has a new catalog in flash format posted on their site. The cool thing about this is that it gives examples of how their product work and what product best suits your needs. This company has a ton of product and it can get intimidating if you are just starting (or even if you think you know what you are doing) so this is a great addition. Check it out...

Been a while since I posted anything but that's because I haven't fount anything of note to post about. But, here is a new product that might interest some. Liquid Greenstuff from Games workshop and here is a product review LilLegend Studio: Liquid Green Stuff Review. For the most part this is a handy bottle of gap filler but it also has potential for cloth based sculpts. Normally when I need to I dilute Magic Sculpt or Aves Epoxy with water until I get a liquid like slurry and apply that over my sculpts to add a smooth finish or to take out some of the roughness but it takes a bit longer to cure due to waiting for the liquid to evaporate so this might be a little quicker and more flexible. I have yet to try it out but just thought I would keep people posed on new items.

Thought I would add this here for reference:

Q1 — A Lot of Joe fans ask for new figures or characters and several times tooling costs are the reason why figures cannot get made or older parts are reused. Although we know you can’t tell us trade secrets, could you tell us somewhat how the tooling process for our favorite figures comes about? Some people have no idea what “tooling” even is.
A1 — Designing and Manufacturing an action figure takes a lot of time and resources – probably more than one would imagine! First, the Designer’s drawings are translated into 3d by a sculptor or model maker, which costs money and takes time. Next, that model has to be replicated into a rigid model with exact measurements and detail. That model is taken apart and given to a factory who recreates the negative impression of each part in a 2-ton solid steel mold. This final stage is the most instense of all, and although we can go into specifics of cost, we can say that you could get a very nice sports car for the cost of a newly tooled figure. Once the figure is complete, it needs to be mass produced. And with this stage, more costs are incurred. Part of of the Brand team’s job is to keep this figure a great value to the consumer. In order to do this, sometimes tough choices have to be made along the way, such as reducing or eliminating new tooling. October 2011 Round 5 Hasbro G.I. October 2011 Round 5 Hasbro G.I. Joe Q&A Answers & Round-Up | The Terror Drome I also read a blog from 4 Horsemen about one of their fanfigs that ran into production problems where they spent the money for the molds to be made but once they were the production facility went bankrupt and sold off all their equipment and molds. The guys kept trying to contact the production facility but with no luck, they had some friends in another toy company who were also having trouble and decided to fly over to China to find out what happened. Their friends had managed to track down their molds for them but I guess they were not packed properly and rust had set into the cavities. It had only been a year but they still had to get extra tooling done to remove the rust. I'm wondering if this is what happened to the original molds when Hasbro says that the "molds were destroyed." I guess if they were just sitting around in a warehouse with no upkeep the rust would warp the cavities and joining system making them unusable. But, since I'm not part of Hasbro or have seen their production it's all speculation on my part.
