I have a Storm Shadow that I will be customizing but I don't want to ruin it on my only shot. So for those who have customized what is the best way to crack his torso open? I understand that different ways get different results depending on the figure.
Wedge and hammer? Xacto blade? Screwdriver? Thanks in advance! |

I have a mixed method. First I use the Xacto blade under the arms and cut/open it until I get close to the arms. Doesn't have to go really that deep. The I use a spoon. Place the holding part of the spoon under the lower/upper torso section in the back and pull it. It works with most figures specially if they don't have so much glue. Sometimes they don't crack but it is enough to take the upper torso out of the down torso. Once this is done it's much easier to complete the job.

I've done the hammer and the blade method and have found that if done correctly the blade method does less noticable damage.

Yeah, knife's the way to go. The first time I cracked a chest I used the hammer and it came right apart, but ever since then I can't get it to work right and wind up doing too much damage.

storm shadow is great for the wooden block and rubber mallet method. I have taken apart several now using that. If you look at his side his two pieces form a V which the wood can rest in. If you look at Duke Torso you can see there is nothing like that so you have to use a knife for him.

Screwdriver will def F*&K them up, I used the knife technique after heating the figure with steam from a water boiler. Worked like a champ! Especially on the Scarlett I am working on now.
