So I have two custom jobs in the planning, one needs some part swapping and the other needs to be totally repainted head to toe. So the question is has anyone tried to take one apart yet? If so how do you recommend doing it with as little damage as possible?

Well the legs come right off with the two screws in the thighs, haven't tried taking the lower leg off the knee.
The lower arms and hands pop right out, just takes a lot of effort. The head pops right off as well The upper torso and the upper arms, I have no idea about. Also found that acrylic paint takes to the hard or soft plastic perfectly! |

The painting I’m not worried about doing, but with the full paint guy the colors I want to do are much lighter then when I’m painting on top of so I wanted to do a white base/ primer coat and am worried about locking up all the joints with the paint.

As long as it's a light coat you should be ok, BTW here's a thread where Destro took a 25th Scarlett apart:

Destro took a Scarlett apart in May before the figures were released, don't know how he got it. Maybe he will post here soon enough. I doubt it will help any but here is a link with a few pictures.
G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary Scarlett Review And More This thread needs to be stickied for future reference. Edit: Shogi beat me to it. I need to post faster or something.

With a hammer. The Upper and Lower body do not come apart without breaking them apart. The arms can be be done but you need to cut the plastic pin in half.

LOL A hammer? Really?
I'm thinking about making a few customs but it'll be after I get a few more packs. |

I haven't tried yet, but they look similar to Star Wars Upper body. Try with a Hobby knife, Cut several times along the glue line. Be careful or you will end with a nasty cut. keep doin it until you feel the blade pass inside. Then separete the pieces with a screw driver. Don't force it, or it will deforme and looks ungly when reglued.
