Foot swapping is really easy. Just heat up the lower leg with a hair dryer for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until it gets soft. Grab the foot with your fingers (you shouldn't need pliers) and pull it right out. Once you've done this with both sets of feet (the recipient and the donor) just push them into place in the empty socket. You may need to heat up the receiving leg again for easier insertion.

But don't the feet have an ankle like joint in them?

Ya but the joint at the ankle is very similar to the joint at the elbow. So it pops right out and right back in. I can post pics when I get home from work if that's still kinda fuzzy. But trust me, I've done it on all my customs to paint them even if I'm not swapping the feet. Just heat it and pull it out.

Oh, ok, I was getting confused because some feet have that joint that lets them flex up and down as well as turn left or right.

Yup, they all go up and down and swivel. The swivel motion is created by the peg that keeps the foot in its socket and the up and down is created by a joint where to foot connects to the peg. Try it out, you'll see what I mean.

Hi after seeing this tutorial, I tried to do a swap for the shock trooper and snake-eyes upper legs. Removing the knees were easy with your tutorial. But I'm facing problem fixing them back. When I try to put them back, the pins got bent after I used the pliers and they couldn't get lock back in place.
Anybody know how to make the pins back to their original shape and how to fix the pins back? Last edited by vince_chua; 12-23-2010 at 10:34 PM.. |

Anybody know how to make the pins back to their original shape and how to fix the pins back? A trick to fit the peg back, is to "push" the knee piece (and peg) on the lower leg, ti'll the peg aligns with the hole. Hold it there with one hand, and use the other to press and slip the peg in the hole. Remember to warm the lower leg.

Dip the pegs on hot water, and re-shape them, simple. Do it while hot, if it's cold you might ruin the peg.
