Parts -
1 Storm Shadow/Ninja 1 Xamot or Tomax(arms) 1 pair of hands/your choice 2 Lego levers Tools - 1 drill bit 1/16 1 drill bit 3/32 Cutters/nippers/knife Glue Start with removing both sets of arms on the 2 figs. You only need the bare arms, so set aside the Ninja arms. Remove the gloved hands and wrist thing from the bare arms, which leaves you with this - (sorry if it's a little blurry) Cut the pegs from the end of the arms, drill a centered hole into the forearm, using your 1/16 bit. You only need half the forearm length, so don't get too crazy with the drill! Trim the Lego lever(as shown)until you fill the hole AND have just a little(including ball) protruding from the "wrist". Glue into place. Now drill into the back of your hands, only going as far as the "palm meat" will allow without drilling completely through the hand. Hand choice is VERY crucial for this application! Also, I tend to turn my drill bits by hand for this procedure(some finess is recommended). Once your hands are drilled out, twist them onto the ball ends of the new wrists. BAM...ball-jointed hands. Now you can wrap the forearms with whatever you choose, or leave them bare. Please check out my gallery below for lots more cool stuff! |

Awesome tutorial Obi! I going to have to try that ball-jointed hand trick. That's ingenious! Great work as always. Digging the sword one too.

Thanks, bro! The ball-jointed hand thing is kinda my trademark thing on SW customs. Made sense to use it on the Joes.

I'm sure you do. I could actually use a bunch if you'd be willing to sell them, or trade for. Lmk.

Daremo,
If you like the ball-jointed hands, check this out. I plan on doing a few more sets for my Ninja, for better shuriken control. Enjoy! |

I love those hands... Now THOSE I really love. You really are a master at this. Keep up the work, you only make it a higher jump to see the bar.
I love your work with all of this... and to think I thought you only did blasters and SW things. |

Wow...just wow...I'm almost speechless....That is probably the coolest addition to a custom figure I have ever seen. I've heard stories, but I couldn't believe them. Boy, was I wrong. Are you hiring apprentices? Exactly how does one even come up with the idea of making articulated fingers, not to mention actually doing it?
You are currently the customizer I want to copy the most. I also enjoyed taking a look through your gallery too, you have some great ideas and executions (not just with Joe figs). Thanks for sharing all your secrets, I've got a lot to learn. |

Thanks guys, really. Ever since I started making custom figs years ago, I've always strived to better myself. Most people do, but there are many who find a comfort level and stagnate. And that's fine of course, but I just can't do that. So...
The articulated fingers came from a simple place - Marvel Legends. I looked at those things for some time, thinking about how cool it would be on a 4" fig. So, I sat down with some choice parts and got to work. Turned out ok, but I'm going to try to tweak the technique next time around, for better asthetics. Anyway...I'm always happy to help with anything that I can. So feel free to ask about whatever. |
