Are we crazy? Yes we are,but so are they. There is no "normal" to base "crazy" off of,every single individual that exists is unique. Different people are into different things,I may be into gi joe and someone else may be into something I dont care for or have limited knowledge of and exposure to. What makes their "thing" the norm and my "thing" odd or weird? Anyone who doesnt get gi joe or toy collecting, its not for them to get. The problem is,certain people are so busy paying attention to what others are doing and passing judgement that they fail to realize that whatever they are into can just as easily be judged or looked down upon. People need to stop paying so much attention to others and focus on themselves.
Think Dungeons and Dragons is nerdy? Aside from the millions of people that have played at least once (many of whom won't admit it), what do you think that Fantasy Football or Fantasy Baseball you put so much time and effort into on your off time are? It's D&D for jocks! Think it's weird to dress up in a costume and go to a convention? I think it's about as weird to paint your body in the colors of your "team" and freeze your @$$ off in the stands cheering for your team. Are either of these any less "obsessive" behavior? |

This is pretty much dead-on. I've heard a lot of good little nuggets over the years that put it in perspective:
Think Dungeons and Dragons is nerdy? I think it's about as weird to paint your body in the colors of your "team" and freeze your @$$ off in the stands cheering for your team. Are either of these any less "obsessive" behavior? I've been saying this for quite a while. I don't even play D&D but I think Fantasy Sports are possibly nerdier, even dorkier. The word "fantasy" immediately makes it sound as childish as people imagine nerdy stuff to be, and you're trading imaginary players on imaginary teams, dealing with tons of stats, and checking all the games to see "how my guys I picked did!" Not that there's anything wrong with it, I find it almost delightfully nerdy, but the fact that this is viewed as acceptable while RPGs aren't is funny. Before everyone had to have a playstation 2, gaming was considering childishly taboo as well. Even a few years ago, I had a friend who gave me a hard time for playing games. Meanwhile, she dated a pro arena league footbal player. I was over at this guy's apt he shared with teammates, and after a game, they turned on the PS2 and played Arena League Football!!! How nerdy is that? They were playing "Work: the game!" My friend found this more acceptable. She sure didn't play "Cash Register Commando" after work. I did convert her with the Wii, however. |

One of the side-effects I've noticed of being a customizer and having a girlfriend/wife, is that if they don't have at least a tiny bit of a sense of humor, you're in for an earful with your curvier projects. Like when you start working on that Baroness or Power-Girl, the GF will see that and be like, why are you making her boobs so big? Why is it taking you a week to sculpt them? That's how you wish I looked like, isn't it!? And of course, you can't be honest and say YES, because she's liable to burn your toys in your sleep.
Me on the other hand, I say HELL YES! And I wish you had that accent and wore that costume too! |

Love that Baroness and Ravage dude. This is a hobby to me. I don't give a damn what other people say. I was going out partying and shit, and all that got me was night in jail, fights, tickets, and at one point I almost lost my life. My plastic crack keeps me at home, and I could car less what anyone says.
