In the past, I've used Testor's clear coat (matte), sometimes called dullcote, sprayed liberally over a customized figure to keep the paint from rubbing off when you move a joint.
But my Jinx project has been stymied because it simply hasn't worked. The Vallejo red paint is easily stripped off the yellow joints every time. I've given the figure more than 24 hours to dry each time and it just isn't working. I know this can be done because I have a few custom figures bought from Hisstank members that don't suffer from this problem (although I don't push my luck). And I've used Testors to coat many other miniatures and figures, but I'm having a lot of trouble this time.

I take the figure apart as much as I can, and then I sand down all of the surfaces that may rub. I also cut away the ring section of each joint that I can't take apart (shoulder, elbow and ankle) so the ring is below the surface of the ball portion of the joint. That way, the ring portion doesn't run off. Some people Dremel the ring portion, but I find it doesn't take enough off.

I’ve never been able to to it with after coats or any type of paint technique. If I can’t find the parts in the colors that I want, I sand them down a bit to avoid rubbing if the parts rub after dry test fitting. Some of the better parts are pretty good with not touching and just rely on the joints to do their work. Some customs I just accept that they are statues and don’t pose them again. Others I’ve been better at making playable. If there is a better way to do it though I’d be eager to learn myself.
46Zone seems to agree.

1. Sand joints
2. Use Q-Tip to apply nail polisher remover on sanded joints 3. Paint 4. Spray sealer (I use Model Master/Testors dull coat lacquer)

Yeah. This is the ultimate solution I think.
I'm not really playing with her. I was trying to get her into a final pose and the paint came right off, which means I have to start over.

What I've experienced in the past is that the longer I let them sit the better. I would paint them and let them sit for a week or more and wouldn't have any paint rubbing off the joints.
