I started painting a figure, but I've since changed my mind on it, is there a way to strip the paint off so I can start over?

Sure dude. Goof off is fast, but you have to be super careful not to let it affect the plastic too much. I recommend using a qtip to apply it/ lightly scrub it, and you'll want to keep a damp towel on hand to wipe it away fairly quickly- if you don't let it sit, you should be good to go. I've also had good luck with Citristrip. it's milder than goo gone, but you do have to be a bit cautious for the same reasons. High % rubbing alcohol can also do it, but it's a very long tedious process.

Its dried completely, it was an older custom that I started and then didn't feel it, so I put it on the backburner and then pretty much forgot about it, but the figure lends itself to another idea i want to do, so I want to to strip that paint off. |

Acetone is the way to go. It’ll strip in layers.

It’ll also melt the hard plastic, so be very careful. If it’s an option, I’d only a attack the trouble spots and just paint over the rest.

Unfortunately I'd already painted almost the entire figure and it's original colors are actually much closer to what I have planned than I what I'd painted it, so if I can strip it, that would probably be best.

Thought I should add some "receipts" to attest to the value of Goof Off.
I wanted a blank stand for the Retaliation Night Viper, so I used Goof off to strip the label here (and sanded the peg WAAAAAY down. Thanks for the consistent design, Hasbro!). The "light" example I just sprayed and washed to use as an example to show what happens if you let it sit- don't do that. The "clean" needs a little bit of touch up to remove some residue (it was invisible until I hit it with the flash), but for all intents and purposes it's how I want it. There's also a figure I did for the first "quarantine" thread that I did the same thing with to strip most of the paint off of a 25th trooper head. The figure is crap, mind you, as I had no access to new parts or paints due to lockdown, but it worked very well to get the figure down to raw plastic- I don't paint over existing apps for durability's sake. |

For acrylic paint I use 91% isopropyl alcohol. Just leave it soaking. Haven't had it damage a figure yet. And if you ever saw my painting you would know I need to start fresh a LOT.
