So I’m new to Hiss Tank and I’ve just started rebuilding my GI Joe collection mostly new figures and vehicles but I have also purchased some vintage ones in good condition. I was wondering if there was a way to use some sort of clear coat after applying stickers to vehicles that would make them adhere better and remove the glossy sticker look. I used to do it all the time when I was into building military models and dioramas and it really helped with giving the emblems a more natural look and adhering to uneven surfaces like rivits and seems. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Anguspowell1 |

Welcome to the Tank Houstonian! I'm in Lake Jackson, about an hour south of you. Glad to see a neighbor here. I have seen several guys do this. I'll have to look thru the customs threads, like joecustoms.com. And I'm sure other sites have folks that have done the same thing. I'm wanting to do that as well once I have to get back to customizing again.

I'd recommend using a matte clear coat and spraying them separately from the vehicle if possible, in order to minimize overspray and/or having to mask. The best route may even be buying some repros and spraying them on the sheet.
As far as uneven surfaces are concerned, i'd use heat, a blowdryer or heat gun would be your best bet, just start low with the temp and gradually increase to avoid curling or melting. while warm, you can use a tool of some sort to "trace out" or press into the details. The heat will also increase the hold of the adhesive. |

Thanks for the reply. Let me know what you find out. Just ordered some decals for the night raven I’m restoring. Forgot to check to see if they were stickers or water model decals.

Hey! Thanks for the response. I accidentally responded to you on the message below. Anyway. Yeah you aren’t to far from me at all in Lake Jackson!. So do they have any conventions around here at all? Let me know what you find out about getting the decals looking more realistic. Looking at maybe going the water based direction....
