Concerning the 1992 Cobra Rat attack hovercraft, it seems as if every toy reviewer singles out the same fault with this toy that bothers me as well -- it's a water toy that can't be played with in the water!
The paper stickers would dissolve, the toy lacks any bottom, and offers little buoyancy. That's unacceptable, and easily correctable. Tonight as an experiment, I replaced the paper stickers with vinyl repro stickers from HissTank sponsor Cobra Stickers (Toyhax). Next I packed the hull with layers of styrofoam blocks, to add buoyancy. Finally I cut up some plastic Folger's coffee lids, and glued/heat welded them to the bottom inside edges of the toy. Unfortunately, to maintain the hover illusion, I had to keep the wheels in place and cut open some wheel-well openings, thus the need for the styrofoam blocks. No longer a submersible, the 1992 Cobra Rat attack hovercraft is mission capable for this 2012 Swamp-Viper action figure from the G.I. Joe Retaliation line. Cobra! What other methods or fixes have you tried for the Cobra Rat?

Cool! I got one of these a few months ago, and the hollow underside has got to be the worst aspect of it (though your mileage may vary in regards to the color scheme). Does it actually float like this, or just look better?

Aside from my childish fantasy, for those of you who suspect these photos are staged... you're right. The turbo engine assembly is just too heavy for the supporting chassis of this toy, unbalancing the craft in the water. The pilot seat fills with water, even when I intentionally counterflood the hovercraft, it just looks sloppy, like it was critically damaged and is about to sink. The only thing the styrofoam blocks accomplished is that the toy doesn't sink now, and can be easily retrieved from the surface of a body of water.
