Angelforge:
I'm going on 2 weeks with the status of my order as "invoiced" I've paid for my order over 100$ worth of goods the minute it gave me the option to checkout. I messaged them on facebook - i could see they read the message but no response. I've emailed them through the website 'contact us' option - nothing so far. Angelforge is one of my favorites - A bit of communication would go a long way - let me know that you're working on it u'know? The complaints across the web are vast right now. Vortious was the absolute worst - I don't know what kind of business hes running but its ridiculous - i'll never order from him again, the only way I received anything was filing a paypal claim after a 7 month wait. Casting websites for 1:18 are getting very...very thin. Starwarsgeek is out of the game end of the month - never ordered from him however - shipping was too much to Canada. Avacslab seems to be a good source but obviously going through something, they've been closed since the beginning of the year - maybe longer (I know they're opening 7/7/2019) Raginspoon seems to be out of stock of everything - no clue whats going on over there but they're not restocking inventory. Maybe its just life doing what it does best and sometimes gets in the way of hobbies but I don't know..somethings up. Maybe its in the water! There should really just be some kind of definitive list of casting sites for 1:18 - maybe i'm overlooking a list somewhere - the one i referred to was seriously outdated. Cheers gents.

Nature of the beast. There's a long list of casting sites that have fallen by the wayside over the years. Someone decides they want to try casting. They start selling a few parts. Requests come in to start selling more. Since many of these sites are one man operations done in their free time. The delivery windows start getting longer and longer. The complaints start rolling in. Caster gets fed up and quits or severely limits who they sell to.
It's not easy. The sites with the bigger selections have to make a choice between making a lot of product that might not sell or making stuff to order which increases wait times. Going the first route is a huge investment in materials (casting supplies can get pricey). The second way gets problematic as a caster gains popularity. There will never be a definitive list, because, situations change so much.

AVACs Lab has been open and closed off and on all year. He closes only due to illness or if he gets backed up. He's always been open about it and very responsible.
I've had my share of issues from the others you mentioned, but AVACs LAb is still my go to source. At this point in the game it's better to learn how and do it yourself. I'm almost at this point. However with the advent and ease of access to 3D printed technology, there has been some nice stuff come out. I'm very lucky to have made some good contacts on that side. I'm also lucky that I know a caster personally that also knows how to paint heads, so I trade/buy with him monthly. It can be frustrating, I know.

Hes very vocal about it on FB and IG. He switched to a 'place your order and ill make it' way of selling instead of keeping items in stock..so people were waiting literally weeks for product. People didnt read his auctions properly and he was always arguing with people and receiving negative feedback so hes just had enough.

AVACs lab should be open in July.
I myself will be researching options to get into casting and shrinking/enlarging figure parts. Sounds like a good retirement gig/hobby to stay busy. I have some pieces that I would like to duplicate and make available. |

I think I've ordered from all of these at one point or another.
Vorrious takes the the longest because its basically custim each time. He'll do any color you want, so I expect a lead time. Unless I order something basic and just afew items like heads, then he's a lot faster. Starwarsgeek is pretty quick but you get whatever color it is. I've tried casting myself. It is a serious pain in the ass. It can eat up a whole day and still get things to come out with a bubble or not looking right. So I can see why few get into it. I want to go 3D printing rout but even that gets limited on colors and clean up of the print. If you want marauders quality stuff but from casts. It probably wont happen. But hopefully 3D printing gets better. I really see that as the only way to get quality fast. Resin castin with the compression pots and different cjemicals and cure times just take way too much time and effort.

Vortious is great but I had to stop using him,
had a torso cast basically shatter as soon as I popped it together. Then I ordered a head and accessories from him and it was basically months before I received it. It takes so long to receive parts that the custom is long out of my head by its arrival. AVACs is amazing, great selection, fast shipment, best quality and usually throws in a nice little extra. |
