Below find pics of a proof of concept update to pink/blue foam dio techniques. This allows for much faster and stronger creations of not only dios but playsets. Using interlocking tabs allows for more structural strength, if more is needed then the fiberglass mesh can be glued to the non showing sides, or wooden bracing elements for columns.
Texture is achieved by using fondant molds pressed into the foam with a rolling pin. The more pressure the better. If a mold has a border it is best to remove it. Rolled up aluminum foil/a rock can be impressed for even more texture. I painted a grey base coat then did some very simple black washes. I think it looks pretty good like that, but a finer finish can be achieved with more painting. Tips for my next build: 1. Precise cutting will make a stronger build, maybe glue will not even be necessary. If it can be broken down for easy storage all the better. 2. Pressure Pressure Pressue 3. It may be best to cut all the shapes out first, then create the surface. Last edited by Adventure Fun; 03-17-2019 at 10:59 PM.. |

Those rollers seem pretty cool, but they are scaled for gaming miniatures. These plates are for fondant, but they are more in scale for Joes. Plus these are plastic plates, the roller is for adding pressure (the aluminum foil was for adding texture, but I am not sure how successful that was.
