I've seen a few customs on here where cobra sigils have been added, and I was just wondering how it was best done.
I'd like too add a silver chest sigil to a cobra trooper to make an officer. Stickers will never look right as they are too tick and show the outline of the clear section which is cheap and nasty. Is there a way to paint a decent cobra emblem (stencil or stamp perhaps?). A waterslide might do the job but I'm unsure of how they work and if they can blend in without a hard line like a decal? Also how they hold up long term. Any tips or help would be appreciated. |

Bad Mother Customs on eBay sells excellent water slide decals and has Cobra sigils in metallic silver and gold. I’ve bought from him many times and his product is great.

Some colors wont show up if the place you are putting it on is to dark. If you apply a varnish/sealer over it, it will hold with no issues. Use a flat to take the shine out once it's dried so it blends in. This was done using the Bad mother waterslide decals

Now I don't paint. I was starting to research the other things I'd need. Bad Mother mentioned this company in his directions: https://www.amazon.com/Decal-Setting...7SVSWGQPDFQ4FX That get me set on the setting agent and decal softener (note sure if this is needed for Joes - thoughts?). I'm a total novice and don't paint. so can you tell me what you mean by 'flat' to take the shine off afterward? Perhaps an Amazon link? Thanks in advance. |

For example, here's a custom Decimator I made. I used gloss yellow to paint the head because it was all I had. I was then told to use flat, clear lacquer to help the shine... Here's the before: Shiney Here's the after: Flat

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys. Very helpful! The Cobra Officer and Stinger driver look fantastic. I've ordered some bad mother customs waterslides on your recombination.
Can you guys please let me know if I need to use a softener as posted above, and what the difference is between the micro sol bottles. Also as to a varnish/flat, is a spray advisable, or can it be brushed? I've never painted before, but I'd like to start learning. If you guys can give any product recommendations (names) Id really appreciate it. I'll be doing a silver decal on a POC cobra trooper chest and possibly arm. Thanks! |

When it comes to the Micro Sol and Micro Set in specific, you use the blue bottle ("Set") for initial decal setting and placement. You brush it onto the work piece and apply the wet decal over the wet Micro Set. Once that is done and the decal is pretty dry, you go over it with several applications of the red bottle ("Sol") to soften the decal to remove creases and puckers that would otherwise occur from applying a flat decal onto a curved or irregular surface. Do it in stages and don't flood the decal with fluid or else it can loosen the decal and ruin it...and your day along with it. The Micro Sol is not at all necessary when applying decals to flat surfaces. Its only job is to improve the contouring of the decal. I used this video as my guide and I followed it exactly in order to get the results of the Stinger Driver and Officer above:
