I've attached a Valkyrie thigh/knee to a Joe lower leg, and while the fit looks nice, the joint is floppy. Any tips, wise customizers? What has worked for you?

I've tried clear Elmer's glue in a few situations, but the bond is terribly weak, so it rarely works out all that well unless it's a joint that's more or less completely enclosed.

Hmm.. knees still are a bit loose after the nail polish, should I just add additional coats? Any other ideas?

There's also a few varieties of floor polish that contain acrylics. I don't use them since the nail polish works for me, but other people prefer it. It's probably more cost-effective if nothing else.

I had floppy knees on my AWOK figure I opened. Nail polish just wouldn't do the trick. I ended up heating up the outer parts of the joint, and then pinching them closed as they cooled. I tossed them in the freezer clamped closed. That worked fairly well. I would recommend giving it a shot.

Modge Podge. Lots of it. It is water resistant, so you can still get it off with a good soak. Another option is plumbers tape (Teflon tape).

Thanks Adventure Fun - another good idea.
The temperature trick seemed promising, but it just wasn't enough, because the plastic eventually resumed the original shape. I might not have freezed it long enough, but I assume it may depend on the tensile strength and elasticity of the plastic. I probably didn't use enough clear nail polish when I tried that. I didn't particularly care for the smell, and maybe mod podge would smell better, I can't remember. Here's what I ended up doing, based on a tip from TrueJoeFan: 1. Filled the hole with green stuff 2. Made a hole in it after it dried (2nd try I decided to make the hole while it had only started to harden, and that worked better.) 3. Worked the hole bigger until it was the right size for the peg 4. Shaved off any excess 5. Forced the peg through. This time it worked, and no green was showing. |
