I was dying my RC car chassises black with some RITT dye and then the idea struck me to dye some of my Joe Accessories pack items black. Like Major Blood's gun from blue to black, which I need. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful. I turned up the heat, added salt to no avail after 2 hours. I guess I could just use a sharpie and keep it as a place holder until I can get an original. Anyone have any luck in this area? I saw some threads about dying figures.
Thanks.. |

I think there is a way to do this successfully using a pressure cooker, but the hell if I'm going to go through that much trouble. All of my attempts to use dye have backfired in one way or another....even the ones the initially looked like a success. After a few months, the dye started leaking into whatever paintjob I placed over it. What a waste of time.

However, after being on the figure for a while, the dye transferred onto the surface. So, I ended up with a Blowtorch with black marks on his face (cause I wanted a vintage one with black mask). I also did it to Battle Corps Flint as I wanted his beret black like the card art and it seeped into his face (from the goggles).

I've never tried vintage stuff but I have successfully done this on Modern figures and accessories. Like it was stated above it works best on the softer Plastics than harder ones but it can be done under the right circumstances. I have never tried to pressure cooker but I do use a Crock-Pot. When dying the harder Plastics such as modern era torsos I add a little paint thinner to the water dye mixture on very low heat for a longer period of time, sometimes up to 12 hours. This is something you obviously want to do outside or in a VERY well ventilated area.
