Hello everyone! New to the forum, and also new to modding. I've learned largely by trial and large amounts of error.
I'm working on a figure mod project to make a custom of a text-game OC, using Scarlett as the base. I recently picked up a Renegades Scarlett (v14) and I noticed that the back hole seems to be smaller than the backpack pegs from the 80's figures. I was wondering if there was any guide as to how the back hole sizes match up with the accessories (basically, did they stay the same from 1982 - ?, do figures produced after X year not fit original accessories, etc.). I was also told that a small amount of blue-tack putty or Sculpey could be used to hold back accessories in place without damage to the figure. Is there any truth to that? Thanks in advance for any help. |

All modern figures from 25th Anniversary onwards (2007 - present) use the smaller-sized backpack holes like you see on Scarlett. The old-fashioned larger backpack holes were relegated to the "classic" O-ring style figures (and the T-crotch figures from the early-mid 2000s which were designed to work with the O-ring figures).
Likewise, the modern figures also use different stands with smaller pegs. This peg size is also shared with Star Wars (from 1995 onwards), Marvel Universe, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, etc. (but NOT the new Mattel Jurassic World).

Any modern figure from 2007 on up will not be able to fit any vintage back packs.
You might be able to stick it on with some sort of putty, but this will not look good when looking at the figure sideways. Depending on the putty, it might not stay in place. What I do is chop off the vintage back pack peg and glue on a cut ink pen. The plastic cartridge that holds the ink. Those fit pretty snug in the modern figures back hole and you can cut them short enough or long enough depending if there is web gear.

MagicWazard, Rangeviper88, thanks to both of you!
I'll give the backpack peg a shot when I can get my hands on an old-style backpack I don't mind ruining. I found that a lot of the hand-held weapons and gear don't always match up exactly either. I might use some small clear rubber bands for those. |
