Hello,
With toys r us closing, I picked up the true heroes apache helocopter. And then my daughter stole it....another story... ...so I bought a second one. So now I'm painting this bad boy. So far the kids like it. Here's the do this when question; do i coat the copter with some sort of clear coat? If so, do so when in pieces? assembled? after stickers are added? I'm taking pictures as I go, so I hope to have a story to show next week. Thanks in advance. -Civilite |

My two cents, but it all depends on what you want to do with it.
I don't clear coat vehicles or figures, but they also don't get particularly played with (and I'm lazy). If you want your kids to have fun with them though, it probably isn't a bad idea to give it an extra layer of protection. |

Dull coat while disassembled, apply decals after assembly.

Seconding Marine-73's advice. At least, for vehicles!
Just wanted to mention though, I'm not exactly pro when it comes to vehicles. (But, yeah, if M73 is telling us, I feel better about my suggestion being good, heh) I personally don't mess with any clear-coating (yet) for figures. But for the vehicles I've done here and there, it helps a lot. Especially for moving parts, like doors that open, hoods, etc. But, just make sure if there are pieces that are going to rub against other pieces, to disassemble best as possible, and give them a really light sanding with finer grit sandpaper. That way you can shave off a bit of room, and the paint/clear coat won't rub off in those places. Will be looking forward to your photos of the project, too! Good luck, Yo Joe. |

Wooops, guess I replied just as you were asking.
I've had the best luck so far with Testor's dullcote. I stay the f away from their paints (go team tamiya!) but, their clear coats (and primers, for the most part, if not using spraypaint primer) are pretty bossanova... ...Chevy Nova? |
