I got one of the remote control JW Textron Tigers a few weeks ago. Like the other JW Fallen Kingdom vehicles I've gotten - the Gyrosphere Blast Vehicle and Rescue Rig - I kind of both love and hate it.
They're all great looking vehicles, and decent scale-wise (even though the Rescue Rig is a lot more under-scaled, which I attribute to it being from Matchbox through Mattel, while the other vehicles are just Mattel), but there just isn't much playability with figures outside of their gimmicks. This one is an R/C vehicle, and I tried it out when I first opened it up. It moves quick with a left/right button and forward/reverse button. But I got it to add more armored equipment to my Joe motor pool. Out of the box, your figures will not fit in this vehicle, so be forewarned. Although you can easily remedy this by removing 6 screws underneath (there are more than 6 visible when you turn it over and look underneath, but only 6 of those actually hold the top shell to the chassis), and cutting away 4 plastic "funnels" that are weirdly molded as part of the seat section. With these removed, you can still only just get a conventional sized modern figure into the driver seat with a bit of determination. The interior looks decent, though the steering wheel sculpt looks really phoned in. It would have been nice to have the rear area accessible, particularly since there's a molded in turret in the roof. Having already taken it apart, there's a decent amount of room back there even with the R/C mechanism which is mostly around the rear axle area. They could have easily made this both R/C and functional for action figures with room in the back for cargo or additional figures.

It's a ruggedly good looking machine, for sure.
For example, look at the rear of it closely. The sculpt of the bumper shackles looks damn realistic. But look at the window of the rear door - it's super smooth to give the appearance of being reflective glass, while the rest of the plastic had a rougher matte finish. That seems a pretty distinctive attention to detail. But then the windows on the sides of the Tiger are just decals meant to be reflective of the surrounding jungle. The tires are nice, solid rubber, but a bit on the soft side. I suppose this is to better grip when running around by remote. I wish I could get a couple sets of these for some of my other custom projects sitting around. Speaking of customs, I was wondering what directions anyone out there might take this. I think it has a lot of potential, but as I'm currently wrapped up in making 3 Gyrosphere Blast Vehicles combat ready, this one will be simmering on the way back burner. But damn - why didn't they at least make the front doors open? Ugh. So frustrating.

That thing just begs to be cut open & customized to make it a Joe Vehicle.
It’s tempying. Personally I’d gladly lose the RC Function if it opened up the back end. For me it’s all about display and not so much functionality.

That catosaurus in the last pic looks like it's about to attack!
Thanks for the review on this; I'd been eyeballing this vehicle, but going by my customization skills, I'm not gonna bother picking this up. It would have been awesome if the vehicle had some kind of functional rear area. |

What’s the retail cost of this thing? I’m not sure I’ve seen it in the wild yet.

It was $25 on Amazon, and there's a tan version too. I really wish this had functional doors. I could modify it, and I probably will at some later date (I already have way too many ongoing projects in various stages of completion), but damn - how hard would it be for one of the toy manufacturers to build some realistic and functional modern MRAPs? I mean, M&C and BBI both made some nice HMMWVs and other miscellaneous items, but here we have 3 armored wheeled vehicles based on real world military models - the BAE Caiman 6x6 (Gyrosphere Blast Vehicle), the Oshkosh M1083A1P2 MTV %-ton Cargo (Rescue Rig) and the MDT Textron Tiger Light Protected Vehicle by Textron Marine & Land Systems built upon the Dodge Ram 5500 platform - but all three are far from replicas. The M1083 is the most functional for practical playability, but it's under-scaled and a lot of the finer details (like the spare tire carrier behind the cab and roof gunner hatch) are non-functional and vague-looking. I know BBI has under-scaled a lot of their more recent offerings too, which really sucks. Here's hoping that M&C Toys adds some of these newer models to their World Peacekeepers line soon. They're the only one out there doing a decent job in this scale.
