So any one know whats a good brush to use for very small details? like painting in eyes on cast heads and other small stuff... I need bristles that are short but also very thin.
my girlfriend told me to get a LINER brush size 10/0. but i would like to get a few other opinions. all the liner brushes i found had long bristles and i think there might even be thinner ones out there also. any help?

I use a paint brush called the physco by army war paints.
The brush is tiny, but perfect for fixing up tiny details around eyes. Cost me $5 at my hobby store. Give it a go. Or give a wooden tooth pick a try

Thanks for sharing the name of that brush. the one I have got lost its fine tip really quick. I also favor broken toothpicks - clipping obliquely with nail cutters makes a very fine point.

I clean mine right away the second I am done using it. If you let any paint dry on these brushes it will ruin it. Also when cleaning and dipping in the water cup don't let the brush hit the bottom of the cup. Just swirl it around about half way in the water and then wipe dry gently. You should also only have paint in about half of the brush. If you dip it in to much paint it will gunk up. This is my second one, I learned the hard way and ruined my 1st one in a week. This one has lasted me over a month.

Great! Thanks for this. You've been cranking out some hits with that second little brush, so a month really means something.

this is going to sound really weird but bare with me. when I was in art school some one shared this trick with me.
pluck out and eyelash or eyebrow hair and tape/super glue it to the end of a toothpick. doesn't get much more fine, and with a long toothpick or bamboo skewer you have quite a bit of control. sounds bananas but it works. Last edited by Dragasses; 01-15-2018 at 04:52 AM.. |

Also I have those wooden sticks to stick heads on durring painting.
You can stick them in an electric sharpener and get it really fine. It can be sharpened after every use to keep it sharp and clean.

Besides needles and toothpicks, I've had success with broom straws. Cut/clip an end at and angle and you get a good sharp point. Depending on the straw length, a single straw can last a long time and just keep clipping/cutting the tip as needed to keep it sharp.

I use the cheap small paintbrushes and what I'll do is on one I'll cut off most of the bristles and leave just a few bristles on the handle. Works well for me.
