I would also just like to add that AVAC's lab has a bunch of Hair in various colors that may be able to save you some time. Personally I cannot recommend this guy enough as his products are always great, and he ships quickly not to mention that you always actually get your order as compared to some of the deadbeat casters on here.

You might find this helpful, maybe not, but I'm actually doing a commission of someone where I'm trying for strawberry blonde. I started with a base coat of the orange, then dry brushed the tan on until I was happy with the shade. This is for a six inch figure though, and I may try to blend them a little more, but you can get the gist of it.

no problem dude, i'm not going to get into the science behind it but i know its a good ageing/weather trick and thought it might work here. oils are kinda forgiving because they take a long time to dry so it gives you time to play, plus the greasyness gives fine details some shine.
if it works out for you please let know! Quote:
I have never actually dyed my hair but I am pretty sure that you can buy "Strawberey blonde" at you local beauty supply shop. 😉
All kidding aside. I think your on the right track I would just practice multiple methods on some junk fodder until you achieve the desired look. Personally I plan to attempt what Voice of reason has suggested. I have used oil base over lacquer and or acrylic paints and it works well and wipes off easy if mistake is made. This also works especially well when writing on figures. IE my Salvo custom where I wrote Right of might on his shirt. But I never considered using it to give a layered look so Thanks VofR for that suggestion. |

Is that orange as red as it looks? The base orange I was going to use is fairly light, but I may need a darker orange based on what I'm seeing here.

It does have a hint of red like an autumn leaf. You could always try painting red first, then dry brush on your orange, then dry brush a tan and get similar results. Good luck!

Here's my result. The formula was thus: Orange base coat- Testors Canine Brown. This color was very close to the color used on the FSS figure Clear Red light coat over top. Dry brushed with a tan and then dry brushed with a yellow.
