I got an ARAH backpack that I want to use with a modern joe, but as we all know the pegholes are different (too big on ARAH). My initial though was to just drill into the backpack and insert a small peg/wire, but I found that when I broke off the original peg, it snapped right off very easily, as in the plastic is very hard and brittle. That made me think that drilling into it might actually crack the entire backpack into pieces. Any advice?
Thanks! |

You already broke the original peg off of the backpack?
I just make the back hole on (25th/modern era) figures bigger with a drill to fit a vintage backpack peg. Last edited by Indiana Joe; 08-13-2017 at 06:40 PM.. |

I did this with Hardball's backpack. The trouble with vintage packs is that not only are the pegs too big, they are in the wrong place (vintage Joes have the peg hole in the center of the back, modern Joes have it closer to the shoulders).
With Hardball's pack I trimmed off the original peg, filled the cavity with hot glue, and pressed the new peg into the hot glue positioning it at the top of the cavity so the pack sits more naturally on the back. I used a piece of a POTF2 light saber for the peg (I have a million extras and they are the right size)

I would just use a nice, sharp drill bit on high speed. Back the drill out every 1/16th inch or so of depth and plunge again until you reach the desired depth. You should be able to drill brittle sidewalk chalk that way so I can't imagine a plastic backpack crumbling from it.

Trust me, they can crumble from drilling... especially the gold colored backpacks.
You can do two things, both have been mentioned before: 1. drill a bigger hole in the back of the figure if it'll fit. 2. cut off the original peg and make a new one using the tips DerStahlhelm posted above.

There's also plastic rod that can be found at hobby stores that can be used as new pegs.
