Sorry if this question has been asked dozens of times before. What type of paint do you all recommend for large custom projects? It can't be those small jars or Testors model paint, can it? I would think that would get expensive quick. Would regular interior house paint work? And have them color it for you. Please advise, thanks.

If you're talking about dioramas and maybe even vehicles and playsets in some cases, I'll use the textured Rust-o-leum spray paint. They don't have the durability you might want, but if you're not going to be agitating or manipulating the surface too much, they work just fine. I've done a few playset platforms, and "drag" figures across them with no issue. And the textures you can get them in make it easy for a guy like me who sucks at that sort of paintwork.
You just got to make sure you properly prepare the surface to be painted (which you should do no matter what paint you use) and be sure they're good and cured before you move on to the next phase of your project. |

It all depends on material being used and the look you want. For vehicles and large projects I use spray cans. Usually the Rustolium or the krylon fusion for plastics. When working with foam or Styrofoam I have a friend airbrush them and I clear over that.

It's a Gigantic plastic doll house (more like a doll mansion or estate). So sounds like rustolium or krylon fusion. It doesn't come apart much, which might make the sprays difficult though. Thanks for the info.

You can also buy clear lacquer to cover your project once complete, that will help it from peeling, chipping etc...
I use it on all my custom figures to help prevent the paint apps from scratching off. Just test it on a sample piece to make sure it'll work.
