I have a very (overly for my skill level) ambitious custom in mind with the big dual-rotor chap mei chinook-like helo.
I would like it to have motorized spinning rotor blades somehow, but not sure where to start. I've seen a few toys that have the type of action I want. Like this hess helicopter here - I wonder if the components of some of those rather cheap RC helo's in the toys stores could be taken apart and used? Mind you I have zero experience with wiring or electric, so yeah, there's that. Any and all ideas, suggestions or tips are welcome. thanks |

Most RC Helos have a high spin rate, I don't know enough about electronics on how you'd slow that down, but I'm pretty sure that a Joe chopper (or other non flying toy) could take that amount of torque. You'd probably want a smaller and slower rotor.
My advice, go to your nearest model/hobby shop. The guys there will be able to help. |

There are lots of options. Everything from RC chopper parts to dismantling Christmas decorations. Most large cities will have a hobby store that specializes in model aircraft or trains, and they will know what you need.
You will end up buying something like this: Motors - Wholesale distributor of small electric motors fot hobby and technology education projects. |

While I know nothing about it I recall back when I was looking into 21st Century Super Cobra that my toughest competition in bidding was the rc crowd who made many fully rc controlled flying Super Cobras out of the 21st Century toys! I'd try Goggling that and see what comes up. Because to be honest as upset as I was at having such a hard time wining an auction they looked very impressive!
