Hey guys,
I need some expert advice on a project I am starting up. I figured since we have some of the best customizers on the net, I would ask you guys. What I am starting is a crimson Mobat (just like the Sears catt from years past). What I need to know is A- what paint to use and B- Since the tank has a brighter paint job or softer plastic, do I need to do a light sanding to get the paint to stick? Also what techniques are best for this project? Paint wise? My tank is ready to go and if this comes out good, I will be doing one for a friend as neither of us wants to spend $100 or more for a vintage one. |

well, with spray can is what i always use.
Krylon Fusion brand doesn't require any sanding at all. Fusion does a great job for a smooth finish. But you can always do a light coat, wet sand with low grit sandpaper and spray another light coat. Always spray on some other area then gently glide back and forth over your work leaving light coats to avoid overspray.

I'm doing the same project. I sprayed mine with Krylon Fusion paints (approximately color matched). It's sticking just fine.
When you're done, are you going to reverse the colors and make the other one? |

I recommend light sanding with 400 grit sand paper to remove any post production oils and to clean the vehicle. The use Krylon Fusion paint in light coats, do it in a well lit and ventilated area (unless ya don't mind getting giddy off the fumes and having red boogers for a day). Once finished, coat it with a lite coating of spray sealer. The sealer will retard any tackness from the paint. Wait a full day for the paint to dry. If you are making a C.A.T., check with CrimsonGuard, I know he's repainted some vehicles for his CG army. Good Luck and can't wait to see it.
