I know we have lots of 3rd party support on the action figure end, but G.I. Joe is seriously lacking any third party support on the vehicle end. I'm also a fan of transformers and I see company after company making their version of Devastator or any number of other popular characters and it got me thinking.
Here on the Tank we have all the creative minds and resources necessary to design, R&D, and with a Kickstarter surely fund production of G.I. Joe scale military vehicles that while not copying directly could certainly capture all the elements of new versions of the vehicles we all love. I know there have to be others of us on the creative end that have thought "if only I could do (X) part of this process I could make a production line of new toys." We just need to assemble an interested team with the skills and knowledge to move forward. I know that if we put together our collective skills and experience on this board we could make it a reality. Although making a plan and sticking to it for a bunch of creative types while still holding down our day jobs and families and such could be like herding cats. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." So in short I'm gonna throw it out there, flame me, make fun of me, tell me it's too difficult, I just want to see what kind of response this gets. Unfortunately, I don't have the skills to take part in such an endeavor. But, I have thought about this idea before, & I have ideas and a willingness to get behind a Kickstarter campaign; should someone decide to take on this idea.
Based on the quality of their product & customer service, I would love to see Marauder inc. roll with this. I've dealt with them before, as a customer, and I trust their decision making processes in keeping this idea highly detailed, interchangeable & affordable. I would love to see 3 chassis/ frames: 1. 4x4 (humvee type) 2. 6x6 (light armored vehicle type) 3. Tank (full treads) Tires could be interchangeable or not (not a deal breaker) Vehicle bodies could be interchangeable & snap onto the frames, like the top canopy of the APC attaches to the body of the vehicle. Of course, vehicle bodies and attachable accessories could be cast in multiple colors; black, white, green, tan & Cobra blue. I would use battle kata roadblock as my figure to test the functionality of the vehicles. If battle kata roadblock can fit in the vehicle, comfortably; then the scale should work for most characters. |

I've got some experience in 3ds Max, Photoshop, and 3D printing. Right now I'm trying to focus on battlefield props, but I've thought about attempting to dabble in vehicles a bit--I honestly don't know if I'd be much good at it, though, but I certainly wouldn't mind trying to make a contribution to see where it goes.

I've seen your work man, it's fantastic, I think a job like what I have in mind would be way too overwhelming and time consuming for someone to take on solo but, I think if we could break the job up and collaborate we could make things much more manageable. I've never dove into 3D printing aside from watching a couple hundred YouTube videos. But someone with some experience would be really handy when designing parts and knowing what will work and what won't. Since after a design would be completed prototyping would be a logical next step.

As a possible alternative to offering complete vehicles, a possible "jumpstarter"/kickstarter would be add on options for existing Joe vehicles. Sort of a way to test the waters.
Some possible options could be: 1) Fully armored canopy/doors for the VAMP/Ninja Combat Cruiser and a half-track conversion kit - just ideas. The possibilities here are endless. 2) Alternative pintle-mounted weapons for the same vehicle. 3) An add-on "horse-shoue" housing for the Retaliation HiSS to turn it into a troop carrier like this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FNknAvuZyN...cept_art_1.jpg It would clamp-on each side using the weapon mounting holes on the side of the sides and the turret ring on top. It could use a missile launcher off of the NCC to keep it simple. (I have been thinking about this one for a long time) 4) Conversion kits for some of the Marvel's Avengers vehicles to transform them into Joe/Cobra vehicles. 5) Conversion kit to turn the RHINO into a dedicated troop carrier. 6) A ski conversion kit for the Ice Cutter - eliminating those silly flopping treads. 7) Other canopy options for the Tread Ripper. 8) Eagle Hawk conversion kit to make it a Cobra vehicle. These projects could start small and get progressively more ambitious. |

I'd also like to see a tractor/ trailer Dragon Wagon, that would be big enough to carry an Elite Force M1 Abrams tank.
