Try the Dollar General stores... Yesterday I saw a pair of cheap knight figures with sword, crossbow and shield there for $2.00

Try a Michael's store. They always have knight figurines there. Or check the jewelry aisles for any sort of pendants or badges that might be the right size and shape. Making a handle for them would the be easy.

There is this toyline (forgot the name) where the knights are in 1/18 scale and comes with removable helmets ,shield and weapons. Below is a pic of my collection taken years ago.

I think those might have been from Unimax (the guys behind Forces of Valor/Bravo Team and the pictured Assassin's Creed figures). I think they had a 1:18 scale medieval line, but I've never, ever seen it in person.

Interesting datum: they were apparently produced in collaboration with Osprey Books. Last edited by CADPAT; 10-13-2016 at 05:22 PM.. |

I saw the knights at Dollar General yesterday, and while the figures absolutely suck, the shields did look fine and to the right scale... and they were only $2 total for the whole pack.
Noone has even brought up the best ones yet... the Army of Darkness toys from Palisades are what you are looking for. You're welcome.

I have been remiss in responding to this thread for a while but I have been reading the responses as they came in. First of all, thanks to all for the suggestions. I have taken a look into each of them (with varied amounts of success).
The Dragonheart shields have one that looks about right in shape, but I found out they have a clip on the back to attach them to the figure. There is no handle. I'm not sure how Joe hands (forearms, really) will interact with that so I haven't taken the plunge to buy one on eBay yet. They seem kind of pricey for what they are, so I am not pursuing that lead much now that I know about the "clip" situation. I have been into DG twice now in search of the knights that were mentioned and never found any. Could anyone post up some pics of them (and/or give a brand name or something so I can google image search for them)? My local DG stores don't carry them so if I need to eBay them I will need some place to start. I bought a small lot of used toy shields on eBay for relatively little money that had an assortment of shields. They were Playmobil shields mostly, but the lot also had a Narnia (Peter's) shield and a couple of others I didn't recognize. The Playmobil shields were about what I expected and the Narnia shield was pretty good (but actually not as good as I had hoped), but the ones I didn't recognize when I bought the lot actually turned out to be the best of the bunch. And after some searching around to find out what the heck they came from, it turns out they were Papo knights shields. I will post up some pics of the various shields in use in a bit. The Playmobil shields are a bit cartoonish (which I knew going in) and also their handles are a bit over-large for Joe hands. They would do in a real pinch, but they won't be my primary target. I have also purchased some Army of Darkness figures that have not arrived yet, because I love that movie and because they have some good medieval weapons. The only shield that is the right look for my needs is with the soldier (the Deadites all have shields that are not very "knight" like...more like vikings). I was unaware of the existence of that toy line, and I wish I had known about the wave 2 blind packs when they came out because army building some of Duke Henry's men at $6/each would have been awesome to do for the kids. But I digress. I have not yet seen what the AoD shields actually look like on the back side, so I don't know how well the shields will work for my needs. If they have clips rather than handles it could be problematic. But I do intend to find out. If nothing else, I will have one more medieval soldier and a selection of medieval weapons. I also have that AoD rolling siege shield thing on the way (plus I bought a Narnia catapult earlier...sweet). The kids are going to have a fun Christmas. Muahahaha! As for the Ages of Action figures...holy crap. I wish I could have found those for cheap. They seem like they were a premium line even before they were discontinued though, so the prices far outstrip my budget. If anyone is sitting on some that they don't want any more and they are OK with taking a pittance for them, please drop me a line! Meanwhile, back in reality, I'm going to try to find some Papo knights on the cheap. If anyone knows a good source, please do let me know. Are they still carried at retail? I'll also keep looking for the DG knights so I can at least see what they look like. In any case, I feel like I have a very good start on this now, so a big thanks to you all once again for the help!

Here you go. They have a crappy straight peg, for a handle. Absolutely horrible design by any standards. Also, the figures heads are squished to be very narrow, and the articulation is a horrible joke.

Chap Mei has a Legends of Knights or something like that. I have seen them at TRU, but I didn't see them the last time I was there.

Oh, I think that's True Legends. I haven't seen as much from them recently; a lot of what I have seen was put on clearance a ways back. I don't see much on TRU's website, either.
