Hy there,
Back again with some metal work. I wanted to scratch build Storm Shadow's swords out of metal because i think they look way much better than painted plastic. So here we go... First i got a steel rod that i extracted from an old windscreen wiper. Then i broke it in to confortable pieces and started grinding it. I used my proxxon micromot tool with various grinding stones and a polishing disc. For the general shape (tip and blade) i used the cylindrical stone, then, for the "wave" efect of the blade, i used the conical grinding stone. You can see the this effect on the blade's edge. Next step is to make the groove, for witch i used a metal ruler and a fine needle file. For the handle buttcap and collar i used a metal tube cut from an electrical connector Then i cut out of thin aluminum sheet the spacer (or collar - not shure what it's named) and two strips to give my handle a bit of tickness. After the pieces are glued in place and polished i used a small plier to bend the blade. For the braid i used a thin strip cut out of white electrical insulating tape witch was wrapped in a spiral to form the handle After spiraling to the end, you must turn backwards with the same step to give the handle the authentic look. Time for glueing the pieces together... For shaping the spacer i used a small drill and a chisel (like the ones used for making holes in leather). Next, i made the collar out two pieces cut out of brass sheet. After glueing the pieces to form the collar i had accomplished the end product: Had to do two of these for Storm Shadow... He seems pretty pleased though... Thanks for watching and hope you like it. Last edited by ata; 02-10-2016 at 03:36 PM.. |

I want to try this with a razor blade, but I feel like that would be asking for trouble.

Great work and from found objects, not pre cut hobby items. Fantastic!
